I can't get Silverlight to work with Internet Explorer 8, can you please help?
Hallo there, I have problem with Internet Explorer and Silverlight. Pre-explanation: For test purposes I needed a German version of Windows 7 so I installed Windows 7 Home Premium German version, Microsoft Office 2010 German version and AVG antivirus, then I used Windows update to update my setup and every thing is working fine. However and after I visited Microsoft website and installed Silverlight, it is not working and all websites with silver light shows up with out the Silverlight functionaities. I receive a yellowbar in German saying the Add-Ons are not activated, but I did activate them all. and it is still not working. Note: I don not have this problem with the English version, neither in Windows XP, nor with IE 8 or IE9 beta. I know that the German version has some exclusions such as no preinstalled Internet explorer and no preinstalled media player, it is a German law. May be the German version need a special setting that I am not aware off. Can you please help and! Thank you in advance and I wish you a very pleasent weekend. Hi Micheal, "I receive a yellowbar in German saying the Add-Ons are not activated, but I did activate them all. and it is still not working." This is a known issue with an old version of the Google Toolbar and the GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe on XP machines. Do you have it installed or did you upgrade from XP? To correct the issue, uninstall the Google Toolbar and Google Toolbar Notifier from the 'Programs and Features' applet in the Control Panel and restart your computer (!important). If you want to install it again go to toolbar.google.com and install the latest version. Regards.Rob^_^

Hi Rob, Thank you for you answer, however it is not the case. 1. I have a new Windows 7 German edition installation and NOT an upgrade installation on top of Windows XP. 2. I do not use google bar or any other bars, because I like my environment to stay clean for application development and testing purposes. I think, but I am not sure, it may have something to do with the German version of Windows 7 and Internet Explorer because the German government have restrictions on Microsoft products installations, e.g. no Media Player and no Internet Expolrer build in the operating system, but rather the Windows 7 installation gives the user a choice of web browser from 5 or 6 different companies, such as Chrome, Firefox IE8 and others.Michael Najar wishes you great day

Hi, Try searching the registry for the Extoff command line switch... it may be under the HKCR/http protocol handler. Nope... that probably isn't the reason. mmm...have you tested the SL installation on other web sites or just your own? Oh.... Try Tools>Internet Options, Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default"... I would bet that you have twiddled with the security zone settings in the hope of getting things to work and have left active scripting or scripting of objects disabled. What security zone is the test loading in? If its the Intranet zone there may be a group policy templates applied by your network administrators that is blocking the scripting of objects. Do you have a <noscript> tag on your page? I have a test page on my site you can try... http://iecustomizer.com/MSMVP/HTML5/HTML5Tags.aspx Half way down the page is a <object> tag hosting a SL player and the page uses <noscript> tags to detect if active scripting is enabled, so if you can view that page and the hosted SL object then its your security zone settings. Regards.Rob^_^
