I can't get Homegroup to work both ways?
Greetings, I'm trying to setup a Homegroup. I have two systems both running Win 7 64 bit. Both are connected to a D-Link Gamer Lounge router (wired). Both SYS are set to Home... Lets call them SYS1 and SYS2. I create a homegroup on SYS1 no problems... I go to SYS2 and join the homegroup enter the password and I am able to see SYS1 under Homegroup in Windows Explorer. I come back to SYS1 and open Windows Explorer and under homegroup I have NOTHING!!! It says "No other homegroup computers are currently available". Even the default set of "shared folders" is not visible/available. I can add folders to the homegroup in SYS1 and they are available from SYS2... I've run the trouble shooter and nothing... Is it a firewall thing? a router thing or what? hagatha

Review the Microsoft method of homegroup setup http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee449421(WS.10).aspx Have you configured your firewall to allow communications between the two machines? Turn the firewall off and set it up, once its done you can turn the firewall back on.Have you installed any 3rd party firewall or security suite? Especially Norton Security Suite?MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Greetings, I have reviewed that link along with others and still no love... If I disable the firewall on both computers and do a restart on both... homegroup works like it's suppose to. Once I re-enable the firewall(s) it stops working. I have checked both firewalls and both have homegroup checked to allow it through the firewall.... I tried re-enabling each firewall one at a time but no love... This thing has got me stumped! I have ESET NOD32 installed on SYS1 and AVG on SYS2. So far it points to the Windows firewall... any hints or guesses? hagatha

You know it works when you disable the firewalls, you just need to properly configure the settings for the firewalls. You haven't said what version of ESET you have or AVG on the other. What firewalls are you running? Is it some 3rd party app like Zone Alarm?MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi,Please temporarily uninstall all third party antivirus program and firewall on the machine, and then turn on Windows Firewall to check the result. Can HomeGroup work fine now? If not, I suggest you open "Windows Firewall" and click "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall". In the opened window, please check the following items and test the issue again:Core Networking;File and Printer SharingHomeGroup;Network DiscoveryThanks,Novak

I would really like to know if you got this solved and how? I'm having the same issues with no 3rd party firewalls, just windows firewall. Let me know what worked. Thanks!
