Please give us more information to help understand the problem. How are you trying to access your folders? What exactly happens when you do it? If there's an error message, what does it say?Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

well , when I double click on any of these locked folders I get a message : " access is denied " the same thing happens when I try to rename or delete the folder.. I also noticed that it shows the size of the folder as " 0 bytes " and I am sure that it contains a lot of files. I think the problem cause is : while I was on windows 7 I limited the access of these folders to certain users and I tried to test some of the new features of permissions but I thought all of this will be gone when I change back to xp. I created a user on xp like the one I used on 7 but still couldn't access the folders. I never knew that windows xp could deny access for folders depending on user permisions . how could I access my folders ?

Problem solved.... apparently permissions for user is not a new thing in windows 7 as windows xp has similar security file and folder options. this is the article that helped : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/308421?p=1 thanks anyway.
