I am using multiboot system with W7 and W8...there is some problem with W8 and i started resetting it from my W8 installation disc...and in this process there was a power cut.Later when switched on i found "BOOT MANAGER IS MISSING PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL TO RESTART"...I did it but the result is same.......Now i installed new Os(W8) into the same drive where it was before and it was successful...but on the other hand I have W7 in other drive...and i'm unable to load it....when i start the pc it is directed to W8 instead of showing which OS(W7/W8) i have to select.....What should i do now to get both of them working and i don't have the W7 installation disc with me right now

Sounds like BOOTMGR just got mixed up / confused regarding W7 vs. W8.

You likely will need to do a "fixmbr" (bootrec repair) using Windows 7 media. I think any w7 media of same type will work.

Sample command is like this:

bootrec.exe

But you MUST follow ALL the guidelines in this MS article on fixing MBR: Using bootrec.exe tool

If you don't have W7 media, you can borrow from colleagues - same version as appropriate.

Then, I would recommend upgrading your BIOS, if you have not done that recently; then try the whole dual-boot scenario again. Win8 is very picky about co-existing - and MS has had vendors build in UEFI protection on newer systems, but try the above, and let us know the results. In some cases, dual-boot may NOT always be possible. In those cases, "drive swap" may actually be needed, if you have only one system; i.e. "build each drive as "C:\" and then, when needing to boot to the other, swap the drives. If you leave the case open, and WHILE POWER IS OFF just change the SATA cable from one drive to the other, when needed, then it is not that difficult - yes, more difficult than regular dual-boot, but it gets rid of all the guessing why problems are happening when trying to dual-boot. So, the sequence would be 1) Shut down (power off) when needing other o/s, 2) Swap SATA cable to the other drive; 3) Power back on. Not perfect, but it works.

Please "Mark as Answer," if I have helped resolve your issue. Thanks.

Hi,

I notice you have another post with same question is ongoing. To avoid any confusion, I suggest you focus on one post each time.
