I am unable to log into any windows user accounts
I am unable to access either the guest or my own user account on my Acer Aspire One net book. When I enter my password, the computer begins to log (the message 'loading your personal settings...' appears under my user account name) but then suddenly this changes to 'logging off' and I am returned to the enter password stage.I have tried logging in with incorrect passwords which returns a 'did you forget your password' message, and I also tried this in safe mode and encountered the same results with both my own account and the administrator account. This problem began after I restarted my netbook following uninstalling antivirus software (McAfee Security Center).1 person needs an answerI do too

This problem is usually caused by a missing or damaged userinit.exe file, found in your Windows folder (Usually C:\Windows\System32). You will need to boot to an external system to check/replace this file. There's a possibility that you can do a System Restore from a Command prompt to a date before your problems and if you're lucky this might repair your problem:"How to start the System Restore tool by using the safe mode option with the Command prompt in Windows XP" < http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449 > If this doesn't work, you will have to boot from another system and try replacing this file. Does your computer have a recovery console? -- that might work. I know that net books do not have CD/DVD drives so that limits what you can boot from. You might try using another computer to put a free Live Linux system on a USB memory stick and boot from that. Ubuntu has instructions for doing this. You may have to modify your BIOS settings to allow booting from a USB drive. Then you can boot from the USB stick and get access to your hard disk/files and perhaps replace this file. Ubuntu is basically an install disk, so make very sure you specify the "Try it" option so that you do not install it.Ubuntu: < http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download >HTH and Good Luck, JW
