I am trying to accept a remote assistance invitation from my Mom and this is what I got after entering the password: A Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the DNS name of the remote computer could not be resolved.

Ran into the same problem with my mom. For those of us with moms who can barely open a browser window, much less follow technical directions on the phone in a reasonable and timely manner, save your sanity and stay on Mom's good side by using TeamViewer (easily findable online). It's free to non-commercial users and works with a minimum of fuss. You download the full version on your end. Tell Mom to download then run the QuickSupport module. (It's just 1.6 MB). Once they start the QS module, they'll get a unique ID with password. On your end, you run the full version of TeamViewer, enter the ID and password, and you're connected! Now here's some reasons why using TeamViewer has pure "win" written all over it: - No need for admin rights on both ends (unless installing full version) - Fully portable (you can run the full version without installation) - Goes through all sorts of firewalls and network setups

You get the "A Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the DNS name of the remote computer could not be resolved" error when the requesting computer (the computer "asking" for assistance) sends its private IP address instead of its public IP address in the assistance request. The solution is "easy" for some and hard for others. I present it here for your perusal:1) Obtain the requesting computer's public IP address (by visiting a web page like http://www.whatismyip.com)2) Save the Remote Assistance Request file to either computer3) Modify the Remote Assistance Request file (RcBuddy.MsRcIncident) using a text editor (like notepad) and replace the private IP address section - should be something like this: RCTICKET="65538,1,192.168.1.33:3389 with the public IP address obtained from whatismyip.com or elsewhere - should be something like this: RCTICKET="65538,1,74.125.47.147:33894) Save the "new" RcBuddy.MsRcIncident file5) Double click it to connect to the computer needing assistance6) Cross your fingers and hope it works!Hope this helps someone else - if it is too much trouble feel free to utilize any of the tools mentioned elsewhere in this thread.- Acorp Computerswww.acorp.net

I was having the same issue with my Dad. TeamViewer solved all the issues. Thanks for the post.
