I am an admin but I cannot access my computer properties when I right click, no virus, spyware, or bugs found with onecare
Please help me. I reloaded xp professional and now I cannot access my properties when I right click on my computer. Also when I bring up the control panel I cannot get any of the settings to come up in any one of the tools there except for the firewall, administrative, fonts, network connections, printers/fax, and scanners/cameras. My icon for the firewall states that I do not have it running but when I get there I am not sure how it states that it is running and on. When I try to turn on Spyware Doctor it brings up a que to run updates it states that it is updated but you must do it again or cancel and when you cancel it gets taken off the tool bar. Also, when I try to download defender an alert window has popped up several times that states "Windows found this file potentially harmful. To help your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file." Under that it given the file name i.e. Name: 909ld9nl.tmp and others like sie9e6id.tmp. What can I do? I tried to download genuine check from Microsoft, got the same message, tried to move to jump drive and it stated "the file has already been removed." What's up with that? 3 people need an answerI do too

What's up with that? i too have this problem also cannot open users account in control panel or open windows firewall or if i right click on command prompt to edit wmi i cannot get anything to respond. last good working order was before i had to install java for a web site then every thing went haywire. i only have one account on computer but i can not change anything. windows fixits definently donot work. i run xp home and student. tried to do a system restore to earlier point but that would not work either.

i finally got a hold on this problem after the last 18 hours of trying different things on web and i ended up inserting my original xp disc and reading the info on it.i inserted disc into cd rom and let it pop up on the screen in normal windows enviroment. clicked on install xp and then it done its thing. when it asked for kind of installation click UPGRADE. then it will do a quick search and ask for your product key. as mine is a genuine xp this was no problem. insert key click ok. when it asks click on keep original configuration, When it restarts donot touch anything let it run coarse. i managed to keep all my original files and data in my docs etc. only had to redo wmplayer 11setup again, and update internet explorer. right clicking onmy computer now gives me no problems and windows firewall working fine and now i have all administrator rights back and set program access and defaults is wrking also does not keep going back to custom. My biggest thing was you never really know about this problem until to late because not every day you want to change settings on firewall or defragment or change admin stuff. hope this helps.I tried the command prompts etc and non of that worked nor did one live security all this only took up valuable down load megabytes for my internet usage. so if you have original disc use it SAVE ALL YOU PHOTOS, FILES TO DISCS FIRST AND IF YOU HAVE A SECOND HARD DRIVE IN PC UNPLUG IT JUST IN CASE. I NEVER RELY ON HARD DRIVES ANY MORE TO SAVE ANYTHING, PUT IT ON A DISC. DISCS ARE CHEAP Harddrive recovery very expensive around a $1000. aust easy if you ever do have a hardrive crash with data on it DO NOT TRY TO WRITE OVER IT as if you write over it you may not be able to recover it.
