I am able to connect to the internet and ping/tracert to servers and pcs, but I cannot map the drive shares or browse te domain/network
Hi, I am running Vista Ultimate 32bit SP2, Sophos AV, Office 2k7,etc., etc.I only recently have had this problem on my PC where I cannot connect to domain shares or browse the network. I have tried rolling back the PC using system restore, but to no avail. As I am the domain adminsitrator, this is a little restictive for my job. I am not experiencing this on any other PC in the network. There have been a few updates recently, but all worked ok after they weree installed. The problem occurred about 3 day after updates applied.I would be grateful if someone knows how to cure this without having to rebuild the PC.Many thanks,Dave AllenPS I have tried using sysinternals to identify some of the problems

Hi Dave, Thank you for posting here. Firstly, may I know the following: 1. The exact error message appeared when you failed to map the drive shares or browse the domain/network. 2. The operating system of other computers (servers and clients) on the network. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Please check if you can access the share folders with UNC (\\computer\folder or \\IP Address\folder). If an error appears, please also let us know in detail. 2. Please go to “Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings” to ensure that “Network Discovery” and “File and Printer Sharing” are enabled. 3. Boot the computer to Clean Boot environment to check if it works: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Hope this helps. Hi All, I am also facing this issue with some Vista Business machines. The problem machine can ping the other machines (Vista and Windows 2000) but it cannot access the shared folders using \\machine\folder. Remote Desktop Connection to the other machines are successful. File and Printer Sharing is turned on. Browsing internet has no problems. I read in some other threads about similar issues and there was mentioned about SMB. I don't know what it is but there is no solution other than to rebuild/reinstall windows. The issue initially happens in one machine out of a sudden (machine was working fine one day before). Then more and more machines are facing this issue. Hope this detail helps in investigation and benefit others who are facing similar issues. ltkhoo
