Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):1. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?2. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application ever been installed on this machine?3. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (IE, Mail, Security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ Disclaimer: MS MVPs neither represent nor work for Microsoft

Let's name the computer that works on your network PCXP-A and the one that does not work PCXP-B, OK.Now, let's take PCXP-B to where PCXP-A is, then put the ethernet cable from PCXP-A into PCXP-B. IfPCXP-B works then the issue could be the ethernet cable at the other location or that router port.

well ok i will try but lets better name the laptop PCVISTA-A and the other that it is not working PCXP-B so I will tell exactly the situation again the main DSL that we are connected to is in another room it has 4 ports and 2 of them are for our neighbours and 2 ours but we have 3 computers in home (laptop(vista) 2 computers(XP)) and we also have a television receiver (spider) that uses internet so we needed 2 more ports so we bought that thing that has 8 ports one of the ports is connected with the DSL for the internet and one for the PCVISTA-A and one for PCXP-B and one for the (spider) and the other four are empty,so I will try first to connect PCXP-B to the DSL directly with another cable then I will try to connect it to the 8-port thing and see if it will work. thx 4 your help.

HiLearning from your topology what you call a main DSL is actually a DSL Modem/Router.Did you check the Network viability of the computer as suggested by my previous post (http://www.ezlan.net/debug.htm ).It is possible that some changes/updates in the Symantec system blocks the connection. Try to temporarily disabling it and see what comes up.While the computer is connected to the Network as it use to when it worked.Pleas do this. From an Admin command prompt type ipconfig /all >Desktop\Ipconfig.txt and press Enter.Paste the content of the Ipconfig.txt file that is on the desktop onto a post. 1. When does your current Symantec subscription expire or is it provided by your school or employer?2. Can either computer connect to the internet via one of the 4 ports on the DSL modem?~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (IE, Mail, Security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ Disclaimer: MS MVPs neither represent nor work for Microsoft
