ISC help please
I've read through maybe 10 different ISC threads, here and there on the net. And I have yet to connect to the ISC notebook I set up. I've enabled the sharing and all. Yet I can't get it to work. For now, can you people answer my questions.1)I have a notebook with a built in wireless card, and I use the wireless card to connect to a wireless access pooint. Then I enable ISC on that notebook, will others be able to connect to it? Because I can't get it to work. I'm connected wirelessly to the modem/router btw.2)Do I need a router to set up ISC. I just recently bought one, and I'm wondering if I should return it or not, because I'm not sure if it's needed. I just want to connect my brothers PSP to my ISC notebook.3)I haven't done this yet, but can I connect the router directly to my ISC notebook, and still establish a internet connection. I don't have access to the modem, because I get my internet wireless through another wireless access point. I just want to set up ISC, so the signal may be better in my area. Since my brothers PSP signal is rather weak, I wanted to improve those signals by using a router connecter through ISC. Is this possible?4)My cousin has dial up and is wondering if he can set up a dial up ISC network in his house. I've read about it before, and I've tried to do it at his house, yet I run into problems there also. I'm no networking person sadly. So can someone tell me how to setup a dial up ISC network also. These are my questions for now. Please help in any way you guys can, I've tried setting a ISC network the last few das, and it's getting frustrating. Thanks.

Hi, I suspect that you may want to set up a Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) in your house but not ISC. Am I correct? If I misunderstood your concerns, please feel free to let me know your requirements (such as what ISC refers to). The following is an introduction document of ICS. Hope it is helpful: Description of Internet Connection Sharing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/234815 The following article has introduced how to create ICS on a host computer that have multiple network adapters. How to using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/bfd3bd31-82f0-4b9c-9cde-fb92bc2b14771033.mspx In the above situation, host computer connect to Internet wirelessly, and router connect to the host computer wired. Other computers connect to the host computer via the router. The host computer needs to be a multihomed computer which has multiple network adapters. Generally, for multi-homed computers, we need to pay attention to the Default Gateway setting. Default Gateway Configuration for Multihomed Computers http://support.microsoft.com/kb/157025 The IP routing table: TCP/IP http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc779122.aspx Hope this helps.

Thank you for the information, I will look at those sites and see if I can figure it out. And yes, I meant ICS. I'll write back whether I'm able to get it done correctly or not. Thanks again. -edit- For some reason, I can set up the ICS host, but when I try to share it through the LAN(host to router through an ethernet cable), the router says that the internet is on, but I don't know how to configure the router. I've tried connecting to the router with my brothers PSP, but the internet doesn't work. I'm pretty sure I have to configure the router to make this work. I reas somewhere that you need to disable DHCP on the router, because the hose computer becomes a DHCP, and you can't have two DHCPs on one network. So any help here would be great, thanks. -edit-edit- Can you tell me how to go about setting up a dial up wireless connection. I don't have a router with a modem, or whatever those are. But is it possible for me to connect to the dial up through my notebook/computer, and connect an ethernet cord from the host computer to the router, and have wireless dial up? It's not a matter of "it's not worth even doing", I just want to know how to network it up. Thanks.

It depends. Actually, in most cases, we use HUB/Switch device for ICS. Do you have such device? I think we may have a test with the router. To make ICS works, we at least need to: 1. Connect two computers to the LAN ports of the router. 2. Disable DHCP on the router. 3. Ensure Broadcast is not disabled. 4. Configure the router to use 192.168.0.X subnet. 5. Ensure the router itself does not use 192.168.0.1 (because we must reserve it for the ICS host computer). For example, you may configure the router to use 192.168.0.254. Then, follow the previous documents to setup ICS in your network. However, I am not sure what router you are using and how it functions. I just provide the above steps for your reference. Most of the steps are related to changing the routers configuration via its web page. Therefore, I highly recommend that you call the manufacturer for further confirmation and assistance, if necessary. Hope this helps!
