ISATAP not working and no-online solution
I have a LG R405 notebook with Vista installed. I turned on my notebook this morning and it says there was a problem and i had to reboot. Once i did that, i lost my wireless connection completely. In the network connection and sharing, my wireless connection does not show up. I went to Device manager and in Network adapters, Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #6 says "this device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31)" When i tried clicking for a solution, it would only gave me "Check online for a soluition later" or "Don't check online" Description of the problem says " Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tired to run. The problem code is 31" What should it do?

Hello Lena, Thank you for posting! Based on my experience, Microsoft ISATAP with error code 31 is an ignorable issue. For more information, please refer to the following KB article: (KB932520) On a Windows Vista-based computer, the Microsoft ISATAP adapter appears with a yellow exclamation mark next to it in Device Manager, and you also receive an error message http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;932520 In such a case, I suspect this problem to be caused by network adapter missing or corrupt. Please firstly reinstall the driver for your wireless network adapter. Then try to reinstall Microsoft ISATAP using following steps: 1. In Device Manger, right-click the item of Microsoft ISATAP and select Uninstall. 2. Still in Device Manager, click Action and select Add legacy hardware. 3. Click Next, and select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced), click Next. 4. Select Network Adapters and click Next. 5. Select Microsoft in left panel and Microsoft ISATAP Adapter in the right panel. 6. Click Next and finish the remaining wizard. Hope it helps! Regards, Lionel Chen Microsoft Online Community Support

I have the same error with my Vista. isatap adapter #6 has error 31. most of the online comunity agress that this problem is "ignorable" however as much as you can ignore the error it still doesn't fix my lack of WiFi. Under newtork adapter in device manager it only shows my NVidia ehternet adapter, but my broadcom wireless adapter doesnt show up. Do i have to reinstall my Braodcom drivers? i have a HPdv6000, it has a wireless slide bottun on the front that would turn on and off my wireless capabilities. However it went from working to not working. Any input woudl be greatly appreciated, this lack of wirelssness kind of ties me down. Also upon restart i hav ean error that says the the file "nnnlkhgD.dll" was not found, howver searching the system regestry cleary proves that it exists. Thanks

HAving the same problem withh Isatap. Followed the procedure above and all I succeeded in doing was to remove the Isatp nework driver. After running the install process above, the device driver list does not include the Isatap. Is there another wayy to reinstall it?

I have a HP Pavilion Notebook running with Vista Home Premium - and am having the same problem. I cannot connect to the internet - for over 2 weeks now. When I diagnose the problem, I am told that my driver is not working properly. When in device manager, it shows that the Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #4 is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31). I have disenabled it, re-enabled it, shut down the computer, took out the battery and more. Many people say it does not matter. If this is so, why can I not connect to the internet. Very frustrating!

I have an HP Pavillion dv2000 with the same issue. My wireless drops constantly and tried to troubleshoot the problem. I already checked with the ISP, the cable modem, and the router. I looked at my configuration when I saw the same message with the Microsoft ISATAP adapter. The MS article referred above (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;932520) says: You can safely ignore this error message. This error message does not indicate a problem with the adapter. The adapter will continue to work correctly. But the article also states that: Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.I am confused. Is it or is it not a problem? I tried contacting Microsoft via chatting who referred me to tech support who referred me to HP who referred me to Microsoft. On top of that, because I purchased my laptop over a year ago, I need to pay to get an answer. I do not feel I should need to pay for a known problem that is not given a clear answer. I just submitted by question via email and I received a standard email with the links to the places I already tried to find answers. So, after chatting, talking to a rep in the phone, emailing, searching in the Microsoft site and other online forums I am trying one more thing through this forum.Again, if anyone can shed some light, why does the article state that Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section?

My wireless has also stopped working. I have a HP Presario F500 with a Broadcom Wireless. The wireless light is off (red) and the button doesn't work. When you look in network connections there is no wireless icon. I also had the trojan.win32,small.bon which I removed with KaspenskyMy ISATAP is working correctly but when I enable Boot logging by pressing F8 during startup and selecting boot logging, I see the followingDid not load driver @nettun.inf,%6to4mp.displayname%;Microsoft 6to4 AdapterDid not load driver @nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP AdapterDid not load driver @nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP AdapterDid not load driver @nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP AdapterDid not load driver @nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP AdapterDid not load driver @nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP AdapterDid not load driver @nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP AdapterDid not load driver @nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP AdapterDid not load driver @nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP AdapterDid not load driver @nettun.inf,%tunmp.displayname%;Microsoft Tun Miniport AdapterDid not load driver @hal.inf,%acpiapic.devicedesc%;ACPI x86-based PCDid not load driver @netrasa.inf,%mp-l2tp-dispname%;WAN Miniport (L2TP)Did not load driver @netrasa.inf,%mp-ip-dispname%;WAN Miniport (IP)Did not load driver @netrasa.inf,%mp-ipv6-dispname%;WAN Miniport (IPv6)Did not load driver @netrasa.inf,%mp-pppoe-dispname%;WAN Miniport (PPPOE)Did not load driver @netrasa.inf,%mp-pptp-dispname%;WAN Miniport (PPTP)Also when I run Driverquery /v /fo csv>c:\in command promt it shows the drivers exist but have been stopped BCM43XV Broadcom Extensible 802.11 Network Adapter Driver Broadcom Extensible 802.11 Network Adapter Driver Kernel Manual Stopped BCM43XX Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter Driver Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter Driver Kernel Manual Stopped But when I load device manager and look under network adaptors there are no wireless devices displayed. I tried reinstalling the Wifi drivers from the HP website but that didn't work.So I don't know if this is a hardware or software issue. Is there any way of checking the hardware independently?I am going to try looking at the WAN miniport drivers tomorrow and also check the system bios which HP recommendedWill update later

Pity there seems to be few answers to this. I've seen this on some Vista PCs, affecting LAN access through the physical cable, so it was a serious problem. In most of our cases we were able to resolve it by running this command from a command promt:netsh winsock reset

hello thank you for your help, I did run netsh winsock reset and I have a message that said the requested operation requires elevation, what is this please .

Thank you Lionel. It worked. Possibly I had a corrupted installed driver files which suddenly occurred. I have Vista Home. I just had to uninstall the driver, as you suggested (I tried before to install over and did not work) and shut down the system. When boot up Vista did automatically the installation, and worked fine.

Welcome to the Vista screwed us page, there is either NO SOLUTION Windows is NOT FAMILIAR with that error, and we've all tried the fixes or my favorite IGNORE how does that help? Jerks should give vista users Windows 7 for free or keep XP going Ranting daily with good reason Want to give me my money back?

Proposed Fix I just came across this issue yesterday and tried a lot of proposed answers all of which did not resolve my problem. However I have resolved this on my own it seems to be linked to OEM (i.e. sony, hp, dell etc.) network monitoring services that come pre-installed with the computer and (speculation) a windows update or potentially an update to the service by the OEM. What I did was go into msconfig by pressing the widows key and the r key at the same time and type msconfig and press enter. this will bring up a dialog box with several tabs, click on the startup tab and disable all OEM network monitoring software then click on the services tab and click hide all microsoft services then go through the list and disable any OEM network monitoring services, click apply and click close. you will then have to restart you computer to have the changes take effect. once you have restarted you should be up and running. Based on the microsoft article relating to this issue it is possible that your adapter will still have the error message (mine did not) but your internet should be working both wired and wireless. c @('_')@ do

Great! It worked.. Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Guys, to see the (working) isatap entries, AFTER you have installed the legacy device, refresh the device manager display, and then click View and enable Show hidden devices That will let you see the isatap drivers added (if all is well). I guess the way it works is the default Windows entries are hidden, until there's a problem, then they are listed with a yellow triangle.

I seem to be having a similar issue. I tried your advice but the adapter never showed back up in the device manager list. The actual issue I have is that when I shut the computer lid [laptop] The computer goes into standby which is supposed to happen, but when I open the lid to resume, the network connection is gone, it shows local area connection only, and resetting the network adapter and or renewing the ip address wont help, the ONLY way to gain access to the internet is to shut down the computer and turn it back on. I tried using the restart option and it did not work... only shutting down completely and then restarting will let me get online... Thanks in advance for your help

I had this problem on a new Dell laptop, and your solution was the only one that got me up and running. Thanks for taking the time to post this! I had to boot up in safe mode, because everything was completely hung and it wouldn't start msconfig even. by OEM, I assumed you meant to disable all DELL related stuff, and I went ahead and disabled most of the "intel" stuff as well... related to wifi or wireless.. everything then came up without a hitch. .. oh and this was with a Windows 7 Ultimate OS.
