ISATAP Adapter Problem
(I originally posted this in error on Hardware/Drivers) Device Manager (under Network Adapters) shows MS ISATAP disabled with "Windows cannot load driver...(Code 31)". When I try to update the driver, "Best driver already installed" comes up. The option to rollback driver is greyed out.A previous suggestion was todisable it in Dev Mgr and disable IPv6 in Network Connections. However, when I did this, both IE-7 and Windows Mail got a little flaky with some random errors and slow connections. Re-enabled IPv6 and both IE and Mail appear normal. Even triedremoving driver but Windows recreates it on next boot with same error in Dev Mgr. Here is theline from Dev Mgr: isatap.(F36ED1D6-98AB-4569-9DD6-03FB92BCB8C6) Is there a way to restore this driver without a complete OS reinstall or System Restore?Or is it even necessary? (Vista Build 5600 32 bit; Dual boot Vista/XP on separate drives; Home network with two computers).

Yes, you can ignore it, but unfortunately, ignoring it does not enable my HP Pavillion DV2000 laptop's wireless adaptor to connect. I try to update the driver, it says I have the most current one; I try to uninstall it and reboot and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I can tell youthis coz,I am an Hewlett Packerd Employee. So If u see the card not to be there, immidiately call your support line.. Coz Its definately HW issue.. If That Seems to Be OK, Then Your Problem is one of the vista Issues that Millions across the globe are facing.. I had the "Access Local Only" problem on my system too.. It's not exclusive to the HP, my Acer Travelmate 5520 suddenly dropped it's connection the other day. I found that once the connection is up, it's ok, but God forgive you if you turn your comp off or let it go into standby....After trying MS, Acer and O2 (my service provider) diagnostics I resorted to a complete rebuild. It hadn't dawned on me to look at the device manager, d'oh!Having done all that, I finally got round to the device manager and there were 2 instances of ISATAP 6.060xxxxDisabling didn't work, uninstalling worked after a reboot - once! Looking across numerous forums it seems it's widespread across many makes and models. I've also read that ver 6.050xxx works, but all the download sites I've tried won't download or shove me back to the MS download centre, which in turn only has papers about implementation.ARRGGHHHHHAny further advice would be wonderful!cheers

I am now having the exact same problem with my HP dv2660se Notebook PC. I recently sent my problem in to HP support through an e-mail and am waiting for a response. I saw the website that said to ignore the problem and couldn't believe that they were actually suggesting that people just ignore the problem. I don't know what to do either

I also have that prob. with my dell laptop I went to At&T and asked them all they could tell me was to do an uninstall and reinstall of my wireless driver which i did and did not help. Any time I get thrown offline I cannot reconnect if the local only icon is on I have to completely shutdown and reboot to get back online But Im glad I came here first cuz i was going to try an uninstall and download a new driver thinking it was not operating correctly which it says it is not. Maybe hopefully someone can tell me how to correct this issue it is highly annoying! But I love my go anywhere wireless so that is not an option I will not be stationary. Who can help should it be the wireless providers or Microsoft? I mean who can?

I have the same issue. Not only is the Microsoft ISATAP adapter showing an exclamation mark, but so is everything under Network Adapters (except for Bluetooth Device and NVIDIA Network controller). I also noticed that the Broadcom 4321AG wi-fi adapter is missing from Device Manager, but I do see it on the Add/Remove programs application, so I'm guessing it is still installed. However, once the exclamation marks appeared, which was today, my wireless connection got lost. I tried Search for Wireless Networks on Networks and Sharing, but got nothing, just Bluetooth. I cannot connect via WiFi at all; I can only access the internet by ethernet cable. I also have an HP laptop in which this is taking place; mine is a Pavilion TX 2110. I have had it for a year, and this had never happened to me. I thought it occured because earlier I was changing enabling and disabling startup programs to better the performance on my PC, but I don't recall disabling anything related to wireless or network connections, just the typical apps like AIM and MSN. I hope someone can resolve this or try to help and not say "Ignore the problem" because I can't in my case ...

I have similar issue as paopao89's for the ethernet connection. The internet connection is lost. The device status of the "Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #2 Properties" says: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31)" Before the problem happened, I did disabling some programs from Startup and removed some applications from my PC. I did not touch network connection either. The PC worked fine after the program removals and PC rebootyesterday. But this morning the problem of no network connection happened.Since then, I tried to do "System Restore" to the previous checkpoint. But the restore is always partial unsuccessful for "unknown" reason, and the necwork connection is not there.Could anyone help to solve this problem? Thanks

I am having the same problem. HP/Compaq Presario F700. This is just plain ridiculous. More garbage from Microsoft and, of course, no solution. They should be sued for creating faulty drivers and programming.

My Lenovo R61 wireless stopped working when I installed Vista Service Pack 2. I have exhausted all avenues to try to fix this thing but none have worked thus far. I originally thought it was a compatibility issue with a new Netgear modem. This is not an issue that one can ignore at all. I am hopeful this does not fall on deaf ears!

i just got the same notice yesterday. i found this link on how to fix the problem online. people are saying that it worked. I haven't tried it yet becuase i am at work, but it's worth a try considering I can't connect to the internet wirelessly with this problem. lemme know if it works for you. this would save a lot of people headaches if it does. what he doesn't tell you is that after registry easy downloads for free and scans your problem, you then click on the repair button, it takes you to a section for you to produce a credit card and pay for the service, A lot of us out here can't afford it!

Which one? ISATAP Adapter #1, 2, or 3?
October 14th, 2009 8:28pm

Which one? ISATAP Adapter #1, 2, or 3? Well, mine was all the network adapters. Which included a lot that began with WAN. After my system restore all those went away and it was back to the 3 i had when I first got my laptop: Aetheros, microsoft isatap adapter, and Realtek. I am currently on another computer searching for things to fix my laptop. After the system restore my microsoft isatap adapter still has the error, I am going to try a further back date for my restore. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Has anyone tried this? Open command prompt as an administrator and then run this command: netsh winsock reset catalog "This command resets the Winsock catalog to the default configuration. This can be useful if a malformed LSP is installed that results in loss of network connectivity. While use of this command can restore network connectivity, it should be used with care because any previously-installed LSPs will need to be re-installed."

I am writing this post as a generalized helping point for anyone in need, since I was having the same issues with many of your posts.I have a HP dv9000 laptop, which is really not that important... but I had problems with my wireless button or switch turning on or off, and I was not able to view nor connect to any wireless networks. I spent about 8 hours working this problem out with the Microsoft Technical Support (who werent very helpful), HP Technical Support, and then just seeing what I could do myself. I had many ISATAP Adaptor problems, I believe I had about 8-10 of them with the yellow triangle with the exlamation point inside, with all the codes you guys have been talking about. After talking about it with a guy I could barely understand with Microsoft, he told me to:1. Disable all of them in the device manager with all the yellow trianges, wait 3-4 minutes, and then enable them. If that didn't work:2. Uninstall all of them with the yellow triangles in the Device Manager, and then reboot your computer.Nothing Happened for me! If it works for you great! Then I talked with an HP representative, and they told me to do this, and it ACTUALLY WORKED!1. Go to this link and view the video... it shows you exactly what to do and what tolook for if you are not a computer whiz and do not know what your network card looks like. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00815053&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN#If you do not have an HP, don't worry about it... I truly think it will help you!I also provided thefollowing steps they gave me if you didn't watch the video. After you do this simple procedure, once you restart your computer, it will force it to recognize that you "put another network minicard in" and it will automatically download all the drivers and programs needed to get you back up and running again. Here are the steps: Step 1 - Remove the battery 1. Slide and hold the battery release latch to the release position. 2. Lift the front edge of the battery and remove it from the battery bay. Step 2 - Remove the wireless LAN Minicard 1. Loosen the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the memory/wireless LAN Minicard cover to the bottom of the notebook. 2. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the outside edge of the memory/wireless LAN Minicard cover and remove it. 3. Carefully disconnect the two wireless antenna cables from the wireless LAN Minicard with a small needlenose pliers or tweezers. CAUTION: Use care when disconnecting the wireless antenna cables from the wireless LAN Minicard. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance. 4. Remove the two 10 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the wireless LAN Minicard to the system board and allow it to release to the spring tension position. 5. Grasp the wireless LAN Minicard by the edges and pull gently to remove it. Step 3 - Replace the wireless LAN Minicard 1. Simply start from #5 in Step 2 and work your way back in reverse to put the Network Minicard back into its respectful place. Start up your computer, and it will see the card and automatically download drivers needed to fix it. If that does not work, you will need to bring in your computer to a repair shop and have them fix your motherboard. I hope this helps someone out!

Microsoft Fix It solved the problem. I had the same issue on my HP dv6700 and downloaded this file. All I see on this forum is people complaining and when a solution is presented to them, they find an excuse not to take it. If you guys are serious about fixing this problem then I would consider doing whatever it takes to get the program. It's very small and can even be sent via email or put onto a flash drive. I even tried disconnecting the wireless card but it did not work. I found this program the only solution.
