Hi, Since the Windows XP PC can detect the Windows 7 laptop, we can eliminate the Windows 7 network settings cause. This issue can occur by incorrect Windows XP network settings. At this stage, you can perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue on Windows XP machine. 1. Temporarily disable firewall on Windows XP machine. 2. Install the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder package from the link below: Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder package 3. Assure the following services are started: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 4. Perform a Clean Boot in Windows XP. 5. Write down the computer name for Windows XP. Click Start button in Windows 7 and type \\XP computer name, and then press enter. Can you access the Windows XP computer now? In addition, you can also contact our Windows XP support engineer for detail suggestions. Thanks, Novak

Thank you Novak for your reply. Well i disabled the firewall on the xp machine and installed the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder package on the xp machine and rebooted then went to the windows 7 machine typed in \\stever and still cant find that xp machine. and now the window 7 machine is not coming up in workgroup properties on xp machine. 1 question is the windows 7 machine cannot access any of the network services meaning my print server and my xp machines can and how would i be able to contact your XP support engineers?

Hi, please try to configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically on each machine. a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter". b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties". d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". e. Click "OK". f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties". g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". h. Click "OK". i. Reboot the computer. If the issue persists, please type "ipconfig /all" Windows 7 machine and one Windows XP machine. Then, please post them here for research. Also, please capture the screenshot and upload it. Thanks, Novak

Hi, After analyzing the above information, I suggest you try the following steps. 1. Temporarily uninstall all Virtual machine software, such as VirtualBox. 2. Manually assign IPv4 IP address, DNS address and Default Gateway. Please assure they are in the same subnet. After assigning the address, please run a Ping test between the two machines. 3. Disable IPv6. What's the result? If there is any error message, please upload it for research. Thanks, Novak
