IPv6 Homegroup issues
I have an issue here that I can't seem to find an answer for. I have a Compaq laptop and an HP desktop, both running Windows 7. I was running Vista Ultimate on the desktop but through reading was led to believe that was the source of my problems. Hopefully I can get this repaired or I will be returning to Vista Ultimate on both of my machines.Prior to installing Windows 7, my computers were networked and shared files (music, documents, etc.) regularly. After installing Windows 7 on the laptop, I was no longer able to even find the desktop in the network, let alone share files between the two computers. I should also mention that before installing Windows 7 on the desktop I couldn't locate the laptop which was running Windows 7. Neither computer could find the other.I attemped to create a homegroup (not knowing at the time that both computers had to be using Windows 7 to be in a homegroup together). Every time I tried it says that IPv6 must be enabled before I can creat a homegroup. I went in and checked the settings and IPv4 and IPv6 were both enabled. I've tried disabling it, restarting, reenabling it, restarting and trying again and still no luck.I decided to try it on the desktop so I installed Windows 7 on it yesterday. It has the same issue.I've tried going into the router (D-Link) and making adjustments in there but every time I do I lose my internet connection so I've decided to stop messing with everything and see if anyone in here can help me.Thanks,Josh

I suggest that you check related sharing settings in Windows 7 RC systems. Please open "Control Panel"\"Network and Sharing Center", click "Change advanced sharing settings" in the left pane, and make sure that "Network Discovery", "File and Printer Sharing", and "Password Protect Sharing" are enabled. Also you need to create the same username\password on all Windows 7 RC computers. If the issue persists, please temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall, then check the result again. Regarding the Homegroup issue, please capture screenshots when the issue occurs and submit them in SkyDrive of your Live Space. Arthur Xie - MSFT

I re-installed Windows 7 and also changed the password on both machines. But basically, I re-installed Windows 7. I installed Windows 7 as an upgrade to Windows Vista.

Hm. I just installed it yesterday on both machines. They were both upgrade installs from Vista. There were no problems during installation. Both Windows 7 ultimate. One is 64-bit and the other is 32-bit.

I have just upgraded my laptop from Vista to 7 and completely clean installed 7 from XP and I have tried all suggestions above to sort this problem with 'Enabling IPv6'. I still have the problem. Any further suggestions....I'm at my wits end.

It looks that you have 2 machines. Each machine has a new passowrd like the street address of your college. You have remove the homegroup on both machines and then reopened them. IV6 is a binder ol on bith machines, I would -uninstall iv6 on both machines.also I would get a new NOC for the XP machine thanks

Excuse my ignorance. But what is an NOC? I've tried all other suggestions on both machines and still get the "you must enable IPv6...." I've disabled and re-enabled '6' in both and still keep getting told it's a network problem. I've edited registry as instructed in other forums and there is no change with this problem. I guess the next step is to uninstall the router and re-install that?
