IP Address - Undetected Network!
HiI recently purchased and installed Windows Vista Ultimate x64. I run it on a dual boot system along-side XP Pro (on different partitions of course). When i log in to XP, the IP address is obtained via my router's dhcp service automatically (router is Netgear DG834) and all works perfectly. However, when i log into Vista on the same machine, an IP address (i think 168.x.x.x) is assigned by Vista to itself. To get the connection to the router requires that i change the IPv4 properties settings to a static IP, which also will not work, and then (whilst making sure i'm set as Private Network) i change it back to as it was, to obtain an IP from dhcp on the router. Most of the time an IP 192.168.x.x is assigned by the router and the network then works. If i reboot i'm back to square one - no connection!I've tried the registry edit thats mentioned on MS Knowledge Base regarding the broadcast flag value, but this doesn't work. There is no fault on the router (works in XP) and no conflicts with IRQ's, such as LAN adapters. Please help! Thanks for reading.

Hi, Netgear has list of devices that are fully compatible with VISTA @ http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101649.asp. Just make your device is compatible with this.

Thanks RamaSubbuOut of all of the 200+ people that have viewed this thread, you are the only one that replied...wow!I got in touch with Netgear and asked them if the router should be compatible and they said yes!Once the connection is made with the router everything works perfectly...it's just that initial connection that seems to be the problem, and only with Vista Ultimate x64.I've even emailed this same problem to Netgear AND Microsoft directly detailing the problem as I have here, but I have had not one word back from anyone! So, thankyou....at this point in time, your the only person in the world to have given me any help or advice what-so-ever! ;)W1lk0
