IPSec over L2TP support within Vista
Hello, One of my users brought in her laptop for me to configure for corporate VPN access. The laptop is loaded with Vista Home Basic and our VPN environment is based upon an IPSec over L2TP connection using a preshared key. I attempted to configure this, but was constantly receiving an "Error 809" messagewhich basically was denying me a connection. After banging my head against a wall for this for the better part of two days, one of my colleagues informed me that Home Basic is not sophisticated enought to handle this type of VPN configuration. My question is whether or not Home Premium can handle this type of encryption over a VPN connection? If so, perhaps I can convince this woman to upgrade. If not, we will eitherhave to recommend that sheupgrade to Ultimate (whice would be more expensive for her) or get her a corporate laptop (which would be an unanticipated expense for the company). Any insight on this would be appreciated. Thanks, -Brian McKnight

Hi Brian, as the error may also occurs on Windows Vista Ultimate, I consider this can be related to other network or server issue. I suggest you first check the following points to troubleshoot the issue: 1. Does the issue occur if you use other machine, such as Windows XP, Windows 2000? 2. Can you establish connection via other method/protocol?
