IIS question
I installed the Wampserver and it worked fine. Then I added SQL Server 2008 and I assume IIS got installed and took over port 80, so that now the Wampserver doesn't work. How do I disable the IIS. I see lots of answers on the forums, but they don't seem to relate to Windows 7. They talk about stopping a service called "World wide publishing" but that service doesn't exist in my list....thanks

I can do that, but then what? Which is the feature I want to turn off? I don't see any that are called IIS or world wide publishing. There is one called Internet Information Services, but it is currently UNchecked, which means it is not currently installed, right?

No...sorry...I was unclear...It is ALREADY UNCHECKED...Does that mean that IIS is NOT installed? That is really confusing since Wampserver was working fine until I installed SQL Server

But of of courseit was alreadyunchecked. I just ran the installation wizard for sql 2008 and there is no mention of IIS asa selectablecomponent.

So I'm still unclear as to what to do now. When I used to use XP, there was an icon in the system tray which I could turn on/off to free up port 80 so I could go back and forth between Apache and IIS. Do you know where that came from and how to get that icon now in Win 7? Did I tell you how much I appreciate your help? Thanks so much!!

Well, I bit the bullet and uninstalled SQL Server. Even though there was a problem with the uninstall, when it finished (there are about 8 separate items to uninstall), wampserver works perfectly now, so clearly there was a problem with SQL Server or IIS that got installed. ANyway, when one of the programs was uninstalling it went into some sort of infinite loop since it never seemed to progress and I had to use task manager to stop it. Nothing seems damaged at this point but I would like to know how I can now reinstall my SQL Server without screwing up the wampserver again. As I said, there used to be a simple dialog that I could just turn on/off the IIS and I just don't see it.

Hi nkoss, I know that you have uninstalled SQL Server to make wampserver run again. Before going forward, I would like to confirm if you have installed latest version of WampServer (WampServer 2.0i) on your computer. If not, you can refer to the following website to get the latest version of WampServer. WampServer 2.0i If you have installed the latest version, this issue can occur because IIS is not compatible with WAMP Server. When you already have IIS running then you may not be able to run WAMP Server at Localhost. You need to shutdown IIS in order to run WAMP Server properly. For more information, you can see the following site. How to Run WAMP Server Parallel with IIS 7 on Windows In addition, since the issue is related toSQL Server installation issue, I also suggest submitting a new thread on SQL Server TechCenter. I do believe this is the most efficient way to resolve this issue in a timely manner! Good Luck!
