IE and Firefox will not load properly
I ran an AVG scan last night and had 6 reports in the vault. I restarted the computer (a laptop) and once on and error code for a file name was displayed saying it could not access this file. It happens to be one in the virus vault. I restored the file (or think I did), but am still getting the error upon startup. (file: C:\Docum\~1\Jessica\LOCALS~1/Temp/DWM.exe)Since this error is showing up, we can not get Firefox or IE to start up. It initially said there was a proxy problem. We changed those settings after find that solution here. However, the error is still showing after startup and Firefox says it crashed and we sent a report, but IE just says it's connecting. Outlook Express is working and loading all the emails, so our connection is fine. Any thoughts?? I would use some malware from malwarebytes.org, however I can not get my internet to open to download it all! UUGGGHHH!! Thanks,Jessica1 person needs an answerI do too

Thanks,JessicaIf you don't trust your antivirus application enough to believe it when says that it found something bad, then it's time for a new antivirus application. If you have Windows XP rather than Vista (this IS an XP forum), then DWM.exe almost certainly is malware of some sort, and you should have left it in the "vault."Use the computer you used to make your post here to download Malwarebytes Anti-malware:malwarebytes.org and SUPERAntiSpyWare Portable:http://superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html?tag=SAS_HOMEPAGECopy the downloaded files to a USB drive or burn them to a CD, and then take the USB drive or CD to the infected computer. Run SUPERAntiSpyware Portable first (it will be saved under a random name, so that any active malware on your computer won't recognize it and block it). Then install, update, and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.If you still have problems, post back, and include the COMPLETE text of any error messages, without paraphrasing.

Quick question...I did the malwarebytes as suggested in the Program forum. I will do the antispyware also...I did rescan and take that file out of my AVG vault, ran Malware and deleted all of that. My next question while I get superantispy on is when I delete my temp files, do I delete everything in the Temp folder under the Windows folder, or just the stuff in the Temp Internet folder?THANK YOU!

Is everything working?

I can't get the sypware to load on...it locks up and then when I try again it doesn't do anything. I have tried a couple of times now.I will run the disk cleanup tool while I wait for another reply. My email works, just the IE and FF won't get going. I am not getting the error code anymore, but FF says it crashed and needs to report and then just sits there. IE just says it is connecting, but never gets anywhere.

The spyware worked....I can open IE and run it, but FF will not run saying the proxy can not register connections. BUT, when I try to download Adobe Flash Player (I lost it in the deletions I guess) it will not install. It is missing hotkey registries (I know a bunch of those got deleted in the spyware deletions. Any ideas now??

Any ideas now??First, the scanners you ran were ANTI-malware applications, not malware, but this is a minor point.Second, you really need to report complete error messages, without paraphrasing. But most importantly, your machine is likely sufficiently compromised at this point to require more detailed help than you can get in this forum. I suggest that you read ALL of the information athttp://elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware .Pay particular attention to the following section:3. If the malware remains even after you've done all this, it is time to get guided help . Choose one of the specialty forums listedhere (in no particular order). Register and read its posting FAQ. According to the excellent advice given by Corrine, MVP and Security/Malware Removal expert:"Recently, many of the security help forums have begun moving away from HijackThis (HJT) as an initial tool, finding it useful only for a general idea of possible issues. Malware today is often not visible in a HJT log. In addition, preliminary cleaning often results in the issue not being visible in a HJT log. "As a result, it is suggested that anyone seeking additional assistance pay particular attention to the preliminary requirements of the site where they are obtaining help. It is particularly useful to the analyst if a clear and concise explanation of the nature of the problem is provided along with all requested logs. "The help sites are very busy. As a result, it may be a few days before a response is received. It is advisable that you track your topic so you will know when an analyst has replied. Because many of the sites track new help requests by zero (0) responses, it is not recommended that you "bump" your post. Most sites have a place to post if you think your problem has been overlooked."It is important to note that many of the tools used at the security help forums are extremely powerful. If used incorrectly can turn your expensive computer into a large paperweight. For that reason, it is advisable that you seek help at an established, recognized site with trained analysts and not attempt to use specialized tools or fixes without proper guidance."Good luck.
