IE Smartscreen Filter - What URL's and ports does it use?
We're planning a rollout of Internet Explorer 8, as well as a limited rollout of Windows 7 in the very near future. Both IE7 and IE8 come with the SmartScreen / Anti-Phishing filter in them, which in testing appears not to be working and I just get messages like "The smartscreen filter online service is temporarily unavailable". I'm assuming this is because our web filtering proxy is blocking the requests. Please can you confirm which hostnames this feature connects to, and on what ports. Please can you also confirm which Proxy setting this feature uses, the one in Internet Explorer, or the one set in Windows 7 itself (netsh winhttp set proxy x.x.x:80). My initial research has come up with urs.microsoft.com on port 443 (https) but I'd like to be sure please so I can make appropriate changes to our web filtering system.

Hi, To answer your questions, the Transmission port for SmartScreen Filter is 443 and it uses the SSL Web technical to send the unsafe website to Microsoft. For more information, please refer to the following article: SmartScreen Filter and Resulting Internet Communication in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Thanks, Novak
