IE 8 won't open swf
Seems the "Alert me when someone responds to this post" feature of this site does not work. I just saw my original help request on another site and it said it was answered. I don't know how this could be because I never knew any responses existed until today. Anyhow, I've tried all the above suggestions today and the problem still exists. original post at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprogeneral/thread/acf2b687-441f-45fb-9b9c-e07974c6ada3 IE8 > Tools > Manage Add-ons shows the Shockwave Flash Object. The Adobe Flash Player is not listed. Never is listed. I'm using Win7 (64-bit) and IE8 (32-bit) - both have all the latest updates. The latest versions of Adobe Flash Player and SWF Player are installed -- both have been uninstalled/reinstalled several times. Flash Player was uninstalled with Adobe uninstaller. I have reset the IE8 settings. A new user account was created and the issue was tested in a clean boot. It still does not work. Now when I saw my original request on this other site, the provided example url was shown as a link. I could click on that link and IE8 would open it. However, if the url was typed into the browser or copy & pasted, IE 8 would not open it. ??? What happens: Type URL into the browser > click enter and/or click on url window arrow > File Download security pop-up window appears > click open > browser window status bar shows download icon in bottom left > nothing. Not to slam IE but Firefox opens the swf files flawlessly. Any other suggestions?

Hi, I suggest resetting IE to check the result. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Reset-Internet-Explorer-settings Click Start -> All programs -> right click Internet Explorer -> Run as administrator Also, you can ask Adobe support for help http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/contact.html Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. Best Regards, NikiPlease remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

Hi, How about IE9 RTM? http://www.microsoft.com/india/windows/ie/IE9.aspx?os=Win7&browser=IE8

I've done the "Go to adobe.com and install everything fresh" -- several times; and reset IE -- more than just once or twice. No change. Adobe support is basically non-existant. I spent several hours circling around and around trying to find where one should/could seek support help, as the flash player and or shockwave player are not purchased software. Concerns were posted in a couple places. Nothing. It should be noted though that a Flash Player update was issued a day or two after my posts but the problem still exists. What's really strange is that IE 8 will play a swf from a document link but if I enter the URL of a swf into the IE 8 address bar, it will not. Enter the url in address bar; click the go arrow OR hit the enter key, the status bar shows the url, a pop-up asks "Do you want to open or save this file"; choose open, popup closes, then nothing happens. Status bar shows done. With the url still in the address bar, if the enter key is clicked again, (not refresh) the swf will eventually play. ??? Have extreme doubts IE 9 will be any bettr, but will try the upgrade today.

I use FireFox also and love it. However, I sometimes want to make sure friends using IE can have trouble free access Little Sheep: I upgraded to IE 9 and that did solve the problem. I can now type a swf URL into the IE9 toolbar and it will open. Absolutely, hate IE 9 browser window look and feel though. What were they thinking? geez . . .
