IE 8 won't go on line
I believe I may have been attacked by a virus. Yesterday a window popped up asking if I wanted to scan my computer for viruses. I did not recognize the program as one of mine. I immediately tried to close it but it would not. I tried to use Task Manager to close it but a window said task manager was infected and could not run. I turned off my wireless antenna and rebooted my computer. I ran my antivirus software (BitDefender). It found a suspect that had PDF in the name but it couldn't delete or quarantine it. I tracked the file down and deleted it. I subsequently ran software by IObit and the Microsoft Security Essentials. Nothing found. Task manager works now. The only problem I now have that I am aware of is that IE will not get on line (I've tried IE 7, IE 8 and Google Chrome all of which worked before). After a time IE say " IE cannot display web page". Chrome says what's below. Firefox works just fine . In fact that's how I am contacting you. I've tried turning off the firewall. Help. Thanks

Couple things to try:1. Check Scheduled Tasks in Windows and make sure the malware didn't add anything there that might be reinstalling itself.2. Check your HOSTS file.3. Reset the TCP/IP protocol by running "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" at a command prompt.4. Download and run CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) - you can get it on another machine and copy to a flash drive perhaps?-B-
