IE 8 BETA
Is it possible to rollback the bundled IE8 BETA and replace it with IE7? IE8 is giving me CSS complaince headaches that I'm not ready to address, but I'd like to keep evaluating Windows 7 as I am working on myweb apps.

IE8 beta is not "bundled" with Windows 7 beta. It is an integrated component that cannot be removed. Nor can you install IE7 in Windows 7 beta.Carey Frisch

Fine, Carey, but it seems to be more of an issue of syntax: "bundled","integral"; pototo, potato. There doesn't seem to be a TechNet forum for discussing IE8, so I'll add here:"integrating" IE8 intoWindows 7BETA seems to be aquestionable decision; as a web developer, IMHO, IE8 BETA is not ready for prime time. For simple browsing, I have no complaints; for page and application development, it needs a lot of work. Thanks for answering.

It's not ready for prime time but then it's also Beta. Part of this is testing that component too. A lot of what you report on IE8 could benefit all of us when this goes Gold...

Oh Lord! I was so tempted to say "Well, duh!" about it being a BETA, but that's only because it's just been one of those days... :o) IE8 BETA has some CSS-compliance quirks. If you are trying to write accessible pages, and (and this is not necessarily a prerequisite, it's only where I first encountered the quirk) use .Net Master pages with reuseable containers, you losecontrol over float-positioning and alignment of nested page divisions. There are a few comments and questions about min-width/max-width issues with IE8 BETA floating the WWW. I first noticed this in the IE8 BETA installed under WIN XP, and it carries through to the "integral inclusion" of the BETA in Windows 7 BETA. This is not the worst possible thing -- except Inow need conditional CSS-stylesheets for four versions of IE (<5.5, 5.5 & 6.0, 7.0, plus 8 BETA), and for Firefox,Safari (Mac) and Safari (Windows), and Konqueror, and... and..! My best half has a web page that won't display at all in IE8 except under "compliance mode" so there's more to the "quirks" than just CSS positioning, but I haven't delved into all of them. I really hope MS will find a way to allow us to installa production version of IEin Win 7 so we can get a feel for the OS as a development platform.

According to instructions earlier we cannot or should not try to download the Explorer8 RC version as of yet as we have to test what is given to us in Windows7. You may run into problems Sorrychamblisstom@bellsouth.net

Windows 7 is a significant improvement over Windows Vista. The performance is on a par with XP on a 512MB machine. However, IE8 suppllied with Windows 7 leaves a great deal to be desired. It stops responding for no apparent reason and a few minutes later a window will pop-up saying the application will restart due to a problem. It gives no indication of what the problem is. This happens several times during a 1 or 2 hour session of testing and really makes using Windows 7 and IE8 a pain. I will provide a more detailed description of the problem in the near future.

No need to be sorry my friend :) I just thought I was missing something and wanted to know. Thanks! So far I am impressed with Windows 7 the only problems I have had have been with IE 8 though, it locks up a lot.

Tony,I will be scolded but since Microsoft sent it to me this is what I did for that problem1.Select and copy the following to your clipboard:reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions /va /f2. Click on "Start", then "All Programs", then "Accessories"3. Right click on "Command Prompt", then click on "Run as administrator" 4. In the UAC prompt, verify that the programs name is "Windows Command Processor" and then click "Yes" 5. Right click on the "Administrator: Command Prompt" windows black area, then select "Paste" 6. Press "Enter", you should see The operation completed successfully. If you see ERROR: Access is denied, please make sure you followed Step 3. 7. Close the "Administrator: Command Prompt window"
