IE 10 32-bit for Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit repeated crashes on start
I downloaded and upgraded to IE 10 .After a restart, when I launch IE, it crashes straight away with the following error: "Internet Explorer has stopped responding. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." It then immediately re-launches itself again and crashes again, looping in the same process until I end the iexplore.exe process in Task Manager. Immediately after upgrading to IE 10, I start IE 10. Immediately after starting IE 10, it stops. I have disabled all add-ons; Reset IE settings, uninstalled IE10 and revert back to IE9. Then upgraded back to 10. still no luck. Hello Steve Robey. The fautling module has not been identified, but the exception code reported (0xc0000005) indicates that a memory access violation occurred: this could be due to an Internet Explorer add-on that is not fully compatible with the new version of the browser. You could try disabling all the IE's add-ons and check if the browser starts fine and does not crash; then try enabling each installed add-on on a one-by-one basis and verify IE's functionality: it could be necessary to remove one or more add-ons if activating them makes Internet Explorer to crash. Bye.Luigi Bruno

Luigi, I did try disabling all add-ons but the error still occurred. Thank you for your suggestion anyway. Steve

From the consumer Win 7 Pro Forum: It seems there was a bug in one of the IE10-for-Win7 Prerequisite Updates (i.e., KB2670838) that was causing other Win7 SP1 users all sorts of problems so Microsoft "pulled" it from Automatic Updates a day or two after it was released on 26 February 2013. But... If you run a manual check for updates, KB2670838 will still be offered as an Optional, non-security update; and...If you choose to install IE10 manually, KB2670838 will be automatically installed, too (hence your crashes). Long story, short version: Avoid manually installing IE10 unless & until MS gets KB2670838 straightened out. If IE10 Release Preview happens to be installed, uninstall it - which will automatically restore your previous version (i.e., IE9 or IE8). PS: If all goes well, MS should start "pushing" IE10 via Automatic Update a few months from now.

I'm having a very similar issue. IE10 was installed and when the Windows 7 was restarted, i receive a message "Internet Explorer has stopped responding. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." It then immediately re-launches itself again and crashes again, looping in the same process until I end the iexplore.exe process in Task Manager. I tried to remove IE10 from my system to revert back to IE9, however, IE10 is not listed in "Uninstall an update". I tried to reinstall IE10 thinking it didn't install correctly, but can't reinstall it because a message pops up stating that a newer version of IE has already been installed. At a loss of what i can do now.

Go to program and features, select installed updates in the left navigation plane, scroll down and select IE10 and select uninstall.NE

That's the problem. I have viewed the "View installed updates" and searched for IE10. It is not listed for me to uninstall. However, I know that it is on my machine. During my search, I also looked in "Turn Windows features on or off". IE10 is listed as a windows feature to turn off. (Please note, I was not trying to uninstall IE10 from this section, but was checking to see if IE10 was on my machine.) I am still at a loss of what I can do to revert back to IE9. Thank you

I wanted to expand on this post by Steve... Similar Issue: Windows 7 64-bit workstation downloaded and installed both the IE10 update and KB2670838. After the update IE10 would crash after opening. Disabled all Add-ons and ran explorer using iexplore -extoff command and still experienced the error message. Downgraded back to IE9 as an attempted fix, however the error would now occur when printing from the web browser. At first I tried uninstall just the IE10 update, but decided to do KB2670838 as well. Thanks for pointing us in the right direction Steve. Solution (for our particular issue): Removed Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 x64-based systems AND KB2670838 updates

I verified that KB2670838 is installed after ie10 install. I uninstalled ie10 and KB2670838 then reinstalled ie10 but same problem. NE Hello, I was having the same problem and thanks to this thread I think it is at least partly solved. I uninstalled KB2670838 and restarted my PC. Upon restart I was back to Internet Explorer 9, which for me is satisfactory for now. I have not bothered trying to reinstall IE 10 as it is more important to have a working version of IE than none at all. Among the things I tried was going back to various restore points; that didn't work. So, for anyone having this problem unless you have to have IE 10 maybe the thing to do is get rid of KB2670838 (and thus IE 10) and revert to IE 9 until IE 10 works better with Win7 Pro SP1 x64. PD
