IE8 won't open popular web pages on Windows 7

Hi, I have a PC desktop computer with Windows 7. I am having a problem opening up very popular web pages like Facebook, Netflix, and the New York Times. Here's what happens: After typing in the URL, I wait a few minutes, and then they eventually open but
in a non-functional way. That is, I can only see text links lined up on in a left hand column. I can't, for instance, read a NY Times article or watch a Netflix film.
I've read this site and saw the forum about add-ons, so I followed the directions and disabled all the add-ons except for two sites that are working and serve as security software for my computer. I read another forum that talked about disabling Firewalls,
and I turned Windows Firewall off, but I still can't open the websites.
I've also had the cable guy to my house to check the wiring and the modem, and I even upgraded my modem. I still can't open them. However, my laptop PC (which also has Windows 7) that is sitting next to my desktop and using wireless via the modem can open
these same popular web pages. That's how I know it must be some settings or software or something going on in the computer versus a modem problem.
The only thing that works, but only temporarily, is restarting my computer. Once I restart, the pages open the first or second time. After about 5 minutes, they start not being able to open again. Do you have any suggestions? I'd appreciate your help. Thank

1. I would expect this topic in Internet Explorer forum or Answers forum.

3. You could compare settings of IE in working and failing computer
4. Another way to troubleshoot the problem is direct question to the webmasters. Chances are, that your instakllation does not support these pages, because of a single software component is missing. (I have search in NYT for prerequisites and found nothig.)
5. As this forum is for IT pro, my IT recommendations aims at the use of Process Monitor to pinpoint the troble causing spot.

May I know that does this issue occur on each website? I suggest you to reset the Internet Explorer.

How to reset Internet Explorer settings

Then to troubleshoot the issue with no add-ons mode.
