IE8 will not start in maximized mode
No matter what I do IE8 insists on opening with a small window which I then have to maximize. So annoying!! It started to do this about a month ago on this Lenovo notebook and my Asus desktop both running Win7 RC1. IE8 is always shut down in maximized mode. I have tried clicking alt, file, exit when in max mode. I have opened properties; run, maximized, apply, ok, but nothing I do works it just opens in the small window next time. Does not happen with Firefox or Chrome.

Hi, I would like to confirm what is the accurate issue, IE8 does not start in maximized mode or it crashes when starting in maximized mode? I would like to suggest you perform the following troubleshooting suggestions to check the issue. You need to check the results after performing each suggestion. Suggestion 1: Reset Internet Explorer 8 ============================= Note: the following steps will remove all of installed add-ons and reset IE to default settings. We need to reinstall the add-ons after resetting. 1. Click "Start", type "inetcpl.cpl" (without quotation marks) into Search bar and press "Enter" to open the Internet Options window. 2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab. 3. Click "Reset" to reset Internet Explorer settings. 4. Check "Delete personal settings" box and click "Reset" to confirm the operation. 5. Click "Close" when the resetting process is complete. 6. Click Restore advanced settings button and click OK. 7. Close the Internet Explorer window and restart IE to check the issue. Suggestion 2: Click Start, All Programs, right click on Internet Explorer and click Run as administrator. Suggestion 3: Test the issue in Clean Boot. Whats the result? If the issue persists, would you please upload the following information to SkyDrive and provide us the link for analyzing? You may check how to use SkyDrive for more information. System Information ======================== 1. Click Start, type in msinfo32 (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and then press Enter. 2. Choose Save from the File menu and save it as an NFO file. 3. Find the file, right-click on this file, click "Send To", and click "Compressed (zipped) Folder". 4. Send the compressed file to us. I tried suggestion 2 first but it did not work, so I tried suggestion 1 (on both of my computers) and as a few weeks have now passed with no issues I think I can safely say it has worked!!! Thank you for your help.

Is this by chance from a user created shortcut?I have the same thing using a shortcut I made on one of my HTPCs (IE8 running on WinXP in this case) where I made a shortcut to a URL for my local TV station's weather page. If I click on the URL shortcut it comes up "small", but if I use the system created destop shortcut (Classic View) or the Launch bar shortcut it comes up full screen.I never really put any research into it, the only reason I wanted the URL shortcut was so my wife could always find the weather info without having to hunt around for it in Favorites of whatever, just click on Show Desktop and click on the URL shortcut. I considered making it the "home" page, but decided against it since the page typically is slow to load completely.I ought to see if I can make it go full screen, never really bothered with it to this point but you post makes me consider giving it some time. Thanks,DAS

Thank you DAS.And I hope that you will find this solution worth. This helped modt of the people, when they right click on a link in Internet explorer and select "Open in a new window option" the IE windows opens in small sized windows. But after performing the steps they got all IE windows maximized even when they open URL's in Internet explorer.I will wait for your next reply and want to know your experience with the steps, which helps me alot.Thanks.Jai.

I've seen lots of people posting complex "fixes" to this issue but none work. The way to do it is to go on to the "tools" button at the top right of IE. Internet Options In the tabs section, click "Settings" Look toward the bottom, where it says "Open links from other programs in" And select "A new window" Restart IE Job done! You may have to maximise the link and re-open for this to work correctly. Hope this helps. Worked for me.
