IE8 request header error : 501 Not Implemented
While trying to access Secure page on a server, the GET request header is not sent properly. Only the first byte "G" is received by the server as one complete message and then the rest of the bytes are received "ET....." . This is happening only on IE8(8.0.7601.17514CO). But it works fine on IE7(7.0.5730.13), IE8(8.0.6001.18702CO) and IE9(9.0.8112.16421CO) for the same secure page. Can anyone guide on the same?

This problem will be better to solved in IE forum. IE 7 is not the case of Windows 7 which is in focus of current forum. Also explain your problem in more detailed form. Regards Milos

Hi SurriyaRoy, Error 501 means that the website youre visiting is not set up to display the content your browser is requesting. These error might occur if you have HTTP 1.1 enabled. To disable it: Tools->Internet Options->Advanced->Settings->Http 1.1 settings, clear the check boxes for Use HTTP 1.1. These errors might also occur if a third-party product is interfering with Internet Explorer. Try closing all programs and then attempt to access the webpage again. Best regards, Karen Hu

Hi Karen Thanks for the reply. But the solution doesn't seem to be working for this particular scenario.

Hi Karen, I tried doing the same. But it doesn't show the option for compatibility view for the page I'm trying to access. Thanks

Hi SurriyaRoy, I guess your webpage is not compatibility with other Internet Explorer but Internet Explorer 7. So please try change browser mode through developer tools: Open your webpage, click F12 key;Click Browser Mode button, change it as Internet Explorer 7 view. Meanwhile, please try following steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811262/en-us Best regards, Karen Hu

I KarenHu, Please note that, the webpage is displaying properly on IE7, IE9, and other versions of IE8. It is showing the behavior only on specific build version of IE8 i.e., 8.0.7601.17514CO. I think it is not the compatibility problem with the webpage, but some error in Send Buffer Implementation of the specific IE8 version. I had already gone through the link before. The solution did not work out. PS: I am testing the scenario using a simple secured web page which displays the text "Hello" on successful access. Regards, Supriya Roy
