IE8 no longer working after connecting to a public Wireless Network
Verified connectivity. Can run Firefox just fine.Initially there was a complaint by IE8 that the public wireless network I was connecting to had a bad certificate. Forced connection and ran fine. After a reboot, IE8 no longer connects to any website no matter what network I am on.Other forms of networking work just fine and Firefox working great.Any ideas how I can get IE8 to work again?-thanks

Have you tried deleting the connection and making a new connection?- John

Try this. Hit the ALT key. Select tools/internet options. Select the connections tab. Click on LAN settings. Unselect the "Use a proxy server" check box if checked.Note, these are how to do this in IE7, the IE8 interface may be different.

I think I have the same problem. I was visiting another country and I had connected to both a wifi and ethernet connection at the hotel. I also remember getting certificate warnings. The problem started at the hotel and now continues when I am back home. The Chrome browser works just fine, but IE8 cannot connect to any website, I even tried doing a repair installation of Windows 7 by choosing the upgrade option on the Win 7 disc and that didn't fix things. Hopefully someone can point me towards some troubleshooting steps. Thanks Followup: I did some more research and remembered that the wifi network I connected to was hosted by a company named btopenzone. I went to thewebsite and started reading the support and FAQ pages and noticed a mention about VPN and if using it, making sure it is enabled. Since I use Cisco VPN, I went ahead and launced the VPN client and tried to connect to my work network. The connection now failed with a driver error(probably related to the repair install I did). I went ahead and uninstalled Cisco VPN client and then was able to connect to websites using IE8. Now I have to try and reinstall Cisco VPN, not sure how that is going to go and if it is going to cause IE8 to stop working again. I'm hoping someone can make some sense out of all this.. BTW...here is the link to the BTopenzone page I mentioned: http://www.btopenzone.com/help/common-questions/index.jsp
