IE8 loses cookies/sessions
So I've been using Windows 7 RC for some days now after using the Beta for the last couple of months, and while IE in general is a whole lot better now, I have one major and very annoying issue.Almost every (but not every) time I close down all my IE windows, fx when shutting the computer down, it will lose all my logged in cookies or sessions or whatever it is. That means http://home.live.com, www.facebook.com, several forums etc. It still remembers a lot of history stuff like URL's and even suggests names for logins (and might even remember the associated password), but nonetheless, I have to constantly log-in all the time... little does the "Remember" functions help.I have no clue as to what this could be. This never happened in Windows 7 Beta, unless IE crashed. Now IE almost never crashes, but the error occurs constantly. Can anyone help?

Have you checked your settings under "Internet Options > General > Browser settings"?This is where you control when things like saved passwords get cleared.Sorry for the late response.-Nick

Exactly what should I check?

In Vista you would go to Internet options and first check in the privacy tab. Then click on the advanced button in the top section. This is where you tell the system how to over-ride cookie handling. Also see if changing your security level on the security tab will have any effect on this.If I can't fix it, it wasn't broke!

Make sure "Delete browsing history on exit" is unchecked, just in case you missed that option.- Nick

Yes, it is unchecked. And I have set the security settings to allow pretty much everything.Essentially, I had nothing changed settings wise compared to Windows 7 Beta. It should work similar... but no, I keep losing sessions pretty much all the time.

In Internet Options, go to the Advanced tab and click Reset... as well as Restore Advanced Settings. Hopefully this will solve your problems.-Nick

Looks like it could have helped. If I don't respond again within the next 24 hours, consider it solved :)

I use IE 8 on a PC and recently all my cookies suddenly decided to disappear randomly. For a very long time I had no problems and all my cookies for saved sites (usernames, etc) worked perfectly. The only recent changes were Microsoft updates, testing out the new InPrivate filtering and webbrowsing, and joining facebook. At first, I thought it was facebook-related but I quit them and it is still happening. I have tried different settings for cookie handling, privacy, advanced, custom, history, and finally resetting to default, all to no avail. I then recalled when I used InPrivate features cookies were not being utilized, so I disabled this feature, and still have the problem. I've even tried re-installing IE 8 from scratch with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks!

Im not so sure but i think that happens only when ur using inprivate brower, try using the standard one and test if it disappears!also go to tools>internet options>Privacy then choose a lower lvl of privacy which may be why its not saving it..also go to tools>internet options>advanced and uncheck the option: empty internet explorer's folder when exit..hope this works for yall,Regards,RR

Yes, I've tried all that, with no result. I guess I have to wait until the next IE version to fix it. =( So frustrating. Can't trust Microsoft!

Same thing happened to me just a few days ago also. I haven't used InPrivate. I had been using Carbonite for a couple of weeks and thought that was it, so I uninstalled it still have the same problem. Now it's not just in IE 8, but my PC asked me some set-up questions when I turned it on today, like it was a brand new PC. I've had it for 2 years on Vista and all was fine until a few days ago.

make a new user profile and this will fix it. Don't ask not sure why. But this is the fix for this issue..
