IE8 and now IE9 stop working after VPN connection connected!
Hi ...
Recently I have a problem with IE8 and now IE9.
The problem is before i connect any VPN connection IE works fine but after VPN connection is established the IE stop working.
At some places I read that connect VPN before opening IE but nothing changed.
There is no proxy setting set and also i must say that Firefox work fine with or without VPN connection but IE stop working.
Things I must say is:
Proxy setting checked IE default connection is set to "never dial a connection" In the past I have PPPOE connection which I delete it after I didn't need it any more
I'm unable to set my VPN connection as default connection no matter from
"Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections" or "Internet Option\Connections"
My OS is Windows 7 x64
P.S: I already ask this in the "Microsoft Answers forums" they told me "Your Windows 7 question is more complex than what is typically answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the IT Pro audience on TechNet. Please
post your question in the TechNet Windows 7 forum." So I put it here.

Thank you for your answer but I must say that it's been quiet a while since I have this problem but I'm waiting and hoping installing IE9 resolve the problem and it didn't so I decide to ask my problem.
It's not a regular problem to wait for Microsoft to release a Hotfix.
Any other suggestion?Microsoft Certified System Engineer 2003

What are you creating your VPN with? My network box can make a VPN without the need for an OS intervention.
Use one like mine on each end and you are good to go.

And you're using IE? Might i ask why?
I must say that I believe everything must work fine so this problem must resolve.
Also i must say that some programs when trying to connect to internet looking at IE setting (like Yahoo messenger) and when IE stop working they stop too and this doesn't mean I use IE for web surfingMicrosoft Certified System Engineer 2003

Try creating a new VPN connection from scratch and see if that works any better.

My network box can create a VPN so I use that with various VMs and every one of them can find it. The VPN is distinct from the LAN and its run through the internet to the server at HQ.
So I wonder if that approach might be a solution. It does require more expensive network infrastructure.

I am suddenly having the same issue.
Pretty much the same details as the original poster.
All Windows Updates installed I'm using the MS VPN Client connecting to a MS VPN server. Not using the remote gateway as default
When VPN is connected, I get a "Internet Explorer can not display the page" message. Disconnecting VPN and the problem goes away immediately and IE works.

Here is how I fixed the issue on my computer
Control Panel - Internet Options - Connections. I click on the VPN i was having issue's with and clicked settings. Uncheck "Use a proxy server for this connection (These settings will not apply to other connections). Click ok
and apply and I could browse with Internet explore while connected to my VPN.
Great, this fixed my issue!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I have been plagued by this problem for over a month now. No idea how or why it started. I have been using the same computer/VPN for nearly 2 years with no problems and then all of a sudden boom - no IE when VPN
was connected. Took forever to find this forum as everything else was related to the "Use remote gateway" setting on VPN and other trivial things that weren't related.
