ICS no internet when xbox is turned on
After failing setting up a bridge on a PC in my basement I decided to use ICS (internet connection sharing) on my newly formatted laptop. Whenever I connect my Xbox 360 via LAN internet access stops on the WAN. I have the IP configured to 192.168.0.1 on the LAN and the xbox automatically assigns an IP and DNS. when everything is turned off the internet works but when the box comes on internet access on the pc stops and needless to say the xbox can not connect to xbox live. Error code in the event viewer readsEvent Type: ErrorEvent Source: ipnathlpEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 30002Date: 12/19/2010Time: 2:01:07 PMUser: N/AComputer: ANTHONY-51C36B1Description:The DHCP allocator was unable to bind to the IP address 192.168.0.1. You need to be a little more precise in your language. You have the IP of what device configured to be 192.168.0.1?The xbox doesn't automatically assign an IP and DNS to anything. You probably have the xbox configured to be automatically assigned an IP and DNS. If you have the Xbox connected to the "local" network adapter of your laptop, ICS will assign an IP address of the form 192.168.0.x. If you have the Xbox connected to the router, the router's DHCP server will do the assigning, using the same subnet that the router's own local IP address uses. Please describe the physical connections between your Xbox, your laptop, and your router. What, exactly, do you mean by "internet access stops on the WAN"?What is the IP address of your "Default Gateway"?Open a Command Prompt window (Start > Run > cmd > OK) Type the following in the Command Prompt window and then press Enter ipconfig /all > "%UserProfile%\Desktop\ip.txt"Open the file ip.txt that will appear on your desktop and paste the contents in your responseIt sounds as if you have set some device to have a static IP address of 192.168.0.1. The problem with that is that ICS forces the IP address of the "local" network adapter (the one on your laptop that is not connected to the Internet source) to be 192.168.0.1. Thus, if you have another device with that address (e.g., the Xbox), you have duplicate IP addresses on the network, which is not allowed.
