Is your PC directly connected to the cable modem or is it connected first to a router which then connects to the cable modem? With Uverse, you were using a modem/router combination. With cable you may or may not be. If you are connected to a router, what make and model? I'd also be interested in knowing your TCP/IP settings on the network adapter.Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]--------------------------------https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Brian.TillmanIf a reply helps, please vote it as helpful. you are right about uverse and the modomand with the other comming stright from the modum. I am usins a netgearethernet swtich not really a router which I used with uverse. I am havin the same problem on my two XP machines a desk top and one lap top, no matter if I plus them direct into the cable modom or not they will only margnally connect. One tech told me it was because uverse might have put comething on the pc. My wife was also using a VPN client for her work. I wiped the hard drive yesterday and reinstalled XP Pro to clear all the bad settings and to have a fresh product, however I get the same connection problemas before no matter if I direct connect to the modom or go though the switch. So I guess I need a router.I am un able to get to any ov the other pc's at this time I'm heading to work soon. The only thing is that even after reinstalling the XP progeam i get the same address as I was getting before which is nothing like the addresses I get on the windows 7 machine when I go to ipconfig. I will answer your other questions after work and thanks for responding.

Your ISP should be able to tell you whether you'll need a router or if the switch is sufficient and help you configure your PCs so they can all connect through the cable modem. At the very least, if you didn't receive any with the modem, the people who make the modem should have documentation on how to configure things.Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]--------------------------------https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Brian.TillmanIf a reply helps, please vote it as helpful. HiUverse provides a Modem/Router.Most regular Cable Internet providers provide only a Modem. My guess would be that you n3eed to buy a Wireless cable/DSL Modem. Then, everything should be connected this way. Jack - Microsoft MVP, Windows Networking. WWW.EZLAN.NET
