Hyperlink to MHT files from any office document where path or doc name contain spaces
I think I found a big in windows 7. One of my users noticed that hyperlinks in their power point presentations blew up on windows 7. After further testing is isolated it to the following behavior: 1. The hyperlink path, (relative or absolute) as a space in the path or file name 2. The file referenced is a single file archived web site (mht file) If I remove the spaces from the file name and place it in a location where the path also contains no spaces, it works fine. However when I open the powerspoint slide show from a path that contains spaces, or the file referenced within the slideshow via hyperlink contains spaces, I get a page can not be displayed with a bunch of %20 in place of the spaces in the URL. Further testing reveals this behavior is isolated to Windows 7. I have tested it on XP running both office 2003 and 2007 and all hyperlinks to mht files work fine, even with spaces in the path or filename. Also if it is any other file other than a mht file it appears to work just fine. Other office documents open as do text files. It appears to be isolated to mht files. If I save the web page as an htm file (which requires additional files for images and such) the hyperlinks all work fine as well. So it appears to be isolated to mht files. So, how do I drop Bill Gates a line and have him issue a fix… well not Mr Gates himself, but someone should fix it.

i'm a volume license customer with software assurance. So i have support incidents available to me anyway. i may take your advice here though since it would seem to get the information to microsoft while not taking one of my SA support incidents. thanks for the information. i'll post any response i get from MS here.

I have tried to open a dialog with Microsoft. Sadly software assurance only gives you support on server and not desktop products. So I would have to pay to open a support case to report a bug to them on their own product. Seems kind of silly to me, but that appears to be the case. So I still have no solution and am continuing to search for one.
