Hyperactive computer after installing Win 7RC
I recently installed Win 7RC on my new computer and the Win 7 seems hyperactive. Does anybody have any idea how to fix the following problem? The symptoms are as follows:- The clock on Windows runs very fast - almost 10 times the normal speed. Once you start the computer the time is correct but starts running fast. The clock on BIOS seems to run normally.- A normal keyboard stroke causes 5-10 of the same letter to appear. I've set the repeat delay and the repeat rate to a minimum with no help. - Double-clicks on the mouse are impossible. I've set the double-click speed to a minimum with no help.- The cursor also blinks very fast.In the following link it was suggested that a solution to a similar problem might be disabling HPET on the BIOS. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/89bf1c56-2ad0-4a36-ace0-f7461ea7eb82I didn't find the HPET setting on my BIOS but I disabled it on the Windows Device Manager with no help. Any other ideas? The computer set-up is as follows:Motherboard:Asus AM2+ AMD770 DDR2 SATA2 GBLAN 8Ch (M4A78-EM)Hard drive:WESTERN DIGITAL 1000GB SATAII 32MB Case: Antec case LifeStyle SONATA III Quiet Super Mini Tower Processor: AMD PHENOM II X4 940 3,0 GHzGraphics driver: CLUB 3D HD 4890 PCIE 1024MB GDDR5 2X DVI Memory: BUFFALO 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800Mhz RETAIL KIT DVD-station: SONY OPTI 20X DVDRW DL BLACK SATA NERO8

Hi,to get an information aboutHPET settings in the BIOS, you should contact your motherboard manufacturer support service. My English is not very well.

Hi - Did you get any response from Asus. I seem to have a similar issue (Asus M3A78-CM). Clock moves very fast, typing isn't an issue (have a keyboard attached to the PS2 port rather than USB so that might be why it works), as I also can't double-click, and the mouse is attached to the USB port. I updated my BIOS, but also can't find anywhere to disable HPET... Thanks.

Hey, I am having the exact same problems as you are having. I just got off the phone with Asus Technical Support (510) about this issue. They informed me that they removed the HPET settings from the BIOS and instead allow the chipset drivers to now handle the correct settings automatically. So, with the tech on the phone, I asked him which driver I should install, since I had already looked at all the Windows 7 drivers listed. He put me on hold for a minute or so and then confirmed that they did not have the drivers for the 790GX chipset on their site. He told me that I should look at the AMD website to try to locate them. I still haven't found the correct driver, but I will continue to look. I hope this helps!!
