How to use the transparent feature in Paint?

How do I use the Transparent?  I thought it was to make a background disappear, like a dark background you don't want.

How does one "select" the background and make it transparent?

Win 8 and Paint.

Thanks.

I'd suggest using paint.net, a much better and user friendly program. You can get it here.

Hi SHarenep,

When selecting parts of an image, you can decide if you want the background color to be included in the selection or not. Simply check or uncheck the "Transparent selection" option. If you want the background included, uncheck the option and vice-versa.

Best regards
