How to uninstall Microsoft Access Data Components (MDAC)
I have a customer who is trying to install a software component (non-Microsoft) that requires MDAC 2.7 or higher. When he runs the components executable, it specifically complains saying it needs MDAC 2.7 or higher to run. He is running Windows XP.We have tried downloading and installing both 2.7 and 2.8 from Microsoft's website. After attempting to install either 2.7 or 2.8 and then trying his other software component installation, it still complains that he needs 2.7 or higher. We ran the MDAC Component Checker and it tells him 2.8 is installed. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301202/en-usIn looking at his registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DataAccess\FullInstallVer), the FullInstallVer is showing 2.6xxxxx. Which, according to this site, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms810805.aspx, 2.6 cannot be installed on XP.He is an administrator on the machine and he has tried the 2.7 and 2.8 installations booted into Safe Mode and with Anti-virus software disabled. So my questions:1. Why is his registry not getting updated when he does the 2.7 or 2.8 installation? The registry is what my software component checks to see if MDAC v2.7 or greater is installed. Since the registry is not updated, the install of my software is failing. Or perhaps the 2.7 or 2.8 registry information lives elsewhere?2. Is there a way to completely uninstall MDAC off the machine (including deleting the registry entries)? Thanks,Ron1 person needs an answerI do too

Tom,Thanks for the links. I had seen those. In particular, this one is interesting:http://www.gallconsulting.com/techhelper/how.to.uninstall.mdac.htmIt gives uninstall instructions for MDAC, but what I find interesting is that Microsoft does not provide these intructions anywhere that I can find. Any idea of the uninstall will remove the registry entry? I think that is where his hangup is.He doesn't get any errors when trying to install 2.7 or 2.8, so that "appears" successful. I'm not sure why the version in the registry is not update. I'm going to ask him to diligently go through kb232060.

You might have him look into the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301I'm not sure if it removes all the registry keys associated with what's in the list, but might be worth a look.SC Tom
