How to skip the MBAM client password page for fixed drives
Regardless of what password policy i set in the MBAM group policies, if i require encryption for fixed drives (Partition D for example), the mbam wizard allways asks me to set a password for it, even though i set the fixed drive password policy to "not require" and "auto unlock". i can even go into the bitlocker applet in control panel and remove the password after encryption starts. How can i encrypt both C: and D: without asking for a password for D?

Hi, I think password is necessary when encrypting the hard drive via Bitlocker for security. I cannot find a method to encrypt the hard drive without setting password. Hi, MBAM agent requires password for fixed data drive by design. If you set the policy "Configure use of passwords for fixed data drives" to disabled, MBAM agent will refuse to encrypt fixed data drive. In this case, MBAM eventlog registers the following error: 0x8031006a, "policy settings don't allow password creation" !

This seems like a big restriction for MBAM. Note: for us the reporting works correctly ( encrypted to password), but we don't like the functionality. We have a lot of machines with multiple drives and if I understand it correctly, we can either do: 1. Encrypt second partition to a password, which the user will likely forget. Can this drive still be recovered via MBAM recovery? Will it still detect if the physical drive is moved out to a different machine? If another user in the domain wants to access the second partition will they require the password? 2. Don't encrypt the second partition, this leave any data on that drive open if the laptop is lost or stolen. it seems like native bitlocker can handle encrypting a second partition to the tpm, why can't MBAM?Dee Ramon

ok, for everyone elses benefit, i was wrong on some of the details on the above * Even though it is not clear, the recovery for the fixed drive is stored in the mbam database. Since we have fixed drive setting to auto unlock in the group policy, the user is not prompted for the password. the fixed drive is unlocked. The biggest issue for us is when the user forgets the password as they will do. Now that we have confirmed it can be recovered via the MBAM recovery we are good to go with the setting to encrypt the drives. To us there is some user confusion about specifiy a password that they will never really get prompted for and have suggested this be changed if possible in the future. Dee Ramon
