How to set time zone setting per user
Is there a way to set the time zone information to be unique for each user? Like, a registry setting specific to that user. For example, I want John to be CST and Mary to be PST. If John opens a program it says 5pm. If Mary opens a program it says 6pm. Additional information: These users don't need to actually log in. I want to create two users, one for CST and one for PST, and use their credentials to run a program. The program will inherit their time zone settings and display the correct time. More info: I plan on using these users in IIS for app pools so that different applications in the website can be run in different time zones and locales. Thanks, James-James Carnley

Hi, I would like to share the following link with you: http://blogs.technet.com/b/deploymentguys/archive/2009/06/07/setting-the-time-zone-using-windows-powershell.aspx You can find out how to set the time zone via PowerShell in this blog. But I do not understand why you want to do this and I would like to tell you that the application can run originally in IIS in different time zone and locales.

James, I am working on an application that requires time zone settings per user the same, and I was wondering if you ever figured out a way to make this work. I am running windows server 2008 R2 SP1 and I am trying to use service accounts that each would have its own time zone. Thanks Mohsen Almassud

well, after I got your reply, I started looking registry and especially that we are running app-v 4.6 SP1. I was able to get this to work by setting up the time zone in the virtual registry in the package right before I started gather the system changes during sequencing. I just thought to post this reply in hope that it helps some body else out there. Thanks for replying. MJMohsen Almassud

Hi Mohsen, I have the same need to set time zone per service. Can you explain how you did it?

Daniel, we use App-v, so in the package for the application that I was working with, I added tzutil.exe to adjust the time zone for each package, and of course I had a package for each time zone that I was servicing. let me know if you need more details on this if you want to try it out for the application you are working with. ThanksMohsen Almassud

Hi Mohsen, we are not using app-v. Just windows 2008 server. Was trying to set a service to run in it's own timezone. Any other ideas?

Daniel, it's really hard to have a service that has a different time zone from the server, but thank God for Hyper-v, where you could create very small VMs with different time zones, but of course this might not work for you due to licensing or any othe reasons. is it a commercial software or home grown?Mohsen Almassud
