How to secure XP mode?
Hello,
I have deployed Windows 7 at my workplace. Everything went smoothly until I had to install an application that works only in XP. The application is used in a call-center environment and it connects to a server to manage the calls of call-center agents and
to produce various reports. I installed XP Mode and application works only if XP mode network configuration is set directly to the NIC . If I set it to
NAT (which is default) it doesn't work.
My problem is that in XP mode there is no AV and
I disabled firewall . And I don't want to install these because of performance issues .
So, my question is: isn't this a security flaw? Even if I run the application from Win7 start menu-->all apps-->virtual pc-->app, doesn't this cause xp mode to run in the background as another client on my network, which is not
protected by AV? If this is true please help.
Thanks.

Yes, running WinXP Mode without anti-virus and firewall protection *is*
a security flaw. Fortunately, it's one you can correct. Use Microsoft
Security Essentials; you'll see very little noticeable performance
degradation.

The question is already answered, but let me add a thought that might help conceptually...
Virtual XP mode is just like having access to another whole computer in a window on your desktop, not unlike making an RDP connection to another physical (XP) machine.
