How to run chkdsk on a volume shadow copy
I'm getting a message in event viewer that says I need to run chkdsk on volume \Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy18 but cannot work out how to access the shadow copy in order to do that. Can anyone advise me how to do that? In case it helps here is the output from a vssadmin list shadowstorage command: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. In this case, the Volume Shadow Copy is located on the C:\ drive - I do believe running chkdsk /f /r on the C:\ drive will check the file(s) in question, but I will try to gather more information for you tomorrow. NuAngelhttp://NuAngel.net

Thanks for the reply. I have already tried running chkdsk /f on my C: drive but that found no errors and did not resolve the problem. Would running it with the /r parameter be likely to make a difference? (I understand what the different parameters mean.) In case it helps, the full text of the error message which appears lots of times in Event Viewer is: The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume \Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy18. Thanks Rob

Thanks very much for that link but I have read it all through and it does not seem to be quite the same as my case. Yes, the error messages are the same but in my case I am not being told that a normal disc needs to have chkdsk run on it but the faulty disc is a Volume Shadow Copy and I still cannot find a way to run chkdsk against that. Have I misunderstood something? Rob
