How to run Windows Explorer elevated?
How can I run Windows Explorer elevated? By this I mean as a full fledged admin, despite UAC. Ctrl-Shift while running Explorer doesn't work. Neither does terminating Explorer.exe and Ctrl-Shift a new one.

Hi, How about typing "Windows Explorer" in the Start Menu search, then right clicking and "Run as administrator"? Kind Regards.

enable the "Launch folder windows in a separate process" check box, log off, and then log back on. After that, you can right-click the Windows Explorer shortcut and choose "Run as administrator." technocrate - that's exactly what I thought should work. Yet, even with that checked, and rebooting, it doesn't! I notice that there's always 2 instances of explorer.exe running, even when I don't have one open...

Sorry Novak, but the article is about XP, neither of the methods mentioned there work with Windows 7. (In the comments there is the hack to use the file open dialog of some other elevated program -like notepad- as a kind of explorer. But, well, that's really a hack.) According to http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprosecurity/thread/1798a1a7-bd2e-4e42-8e98-0bc715e7f641 there is no way to run the explorer with an elevated account in Windows 7. The only options seems to be to use an elevated command prompt or third party file management tools ( ***-Commander etc.). I am very curios - what is the rationale behind this design decision?
