How to restore Outlook Express e-mail messages
I needed to do a "clean install" of my OS, XP Pro, SP3. So I ran a back up before doing the re-install to an external hard drive. I used the external hard drive's built-in firm ware to perform the back up.After doing the re-install, I would like to recover some of the e-mail messages. I can find the Outlook Express folder on the external hard drive, but nothing in the folder has the appearance of a file that would be an e-mail message. This made me wonder, where does Outlook Express save e-mail messages, anyway? Then maybe I could identify the correct folder or file to restore.I hope someone can help me with some tips.Thank you.1 person got this answerI do too

Mr Bear, I am no computer tinkerer, I make leather goods. But you have helped me with problems that were way out of my league, 2 times now! The links you provided me with confused me for a few hours (time I can scarcely afford to spend away from my regular work), but I had an important need for a solution to the problem. Thanks again for your help. Way to go! Monty

You're very welcome & thanks for your feedback, Monty.Yes, it looks like our paths have crossed several times recently: cf. http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/user/threads?user=MontyDD Actually, there's something I meant to include in my reply to one of your earlier threads. Now that you've done the clean install of WinXP & everything's OK (I assume), I would strongly encourage you to download/install KB971029 manually: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971029. (KB971029 is not offered by Windows Update but installing it will add important protection to all of your WinXP computers.)May I ask what anti-virus application you're using now and is your computer fully-patched at Windows Update?--~RobearPS: What did the leatherworker say to his young son? Someday this awl will be yours. <wink>

I have Microsoft Security Essentials and I am counting on it for my anti-virus protection. Is that OK? I don't know what "fully patched" means but my Windows Updates is set for "ON."P.S. - Here's some good advice from my geology professor: "Don't take all your rocks for granite."
