How to repair a corrupt install of .net 2.0 64 Bit?
I have a desktop that has applications failing to open because the .net 2.0 framework is corrupt. I have found instructions on how to fix the 32 bit version. But not the 64 bit version of the framework. Can anyone from Microsoft provide a KB article or instructions on how to fully uninstall the .net framework and re-install it on a 64 bit machine? Or run a repair on the 64 bit based framework? Thanks in advance!

Hi, As the blog says, you have no need to rebuild the system from scratch. Please make an in-place upgrade installation to repair .NET registry corruption. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2255099 Juke Chou TechNet Community Support

No luck yet. "When the scan completes, the SFC tool will indicate whether or not it found any problems and whether or not it was able to fix them" I ran the scan and unfortunately it found nothing: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." The 64 bit 2.0 framework is still corrupt. This system is running Windows 7 x64 not Vista but the measures may have been compatible under similar circumstances. Thanks for the responses. Before I have to re-do the system from scratch are there any other recommendations? It might also be noted a virus was removed prior this issue. The virus was cleaned but it apparently took the framework with it.

I performed the repair install. (Backed up the computer ran the upgrade as the instructions recommended etc.) Did not fix. Framework still corrupt. MS really doesn't have a fix for this do they? I'm amazed. It is that deeply rooted into the system that a repair install won't fix! I ran this test: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\csc /? It should return information if the framework were working properly..... It doesn't it just shows a blank line and skips to the command prompt again. The repair install does not work. Thanks for the ideas guys but apparently there is no fix. Back to square one of re-doing the entire system. The .net framework is toast there is no repair for it and I hope anyone in the future looking for how to repair the .net framework (Netfx64.exe is the install source) knows now that it can be corrupted beyond a repair install so that they do not spend hours going through that process like I just did.

Hi, If you run the command mentioned above, CMD will output the options help of CSC.exe command. Based on my understanding, Upgrade installation should fix such issue. Maybe a 3rd party application cause it, please try to boot computer in Clean Boot or Safe Mode and test again.Juke Chou TechNet Community Support
