How to reduce system backup size when VSS is enabled?
Hi, There is a computer with Windows 7 configured to perform a complete daily backup. Since the volume shadow copy storage has been increased to serve as an additional backup-like protection between the daily backups, the backup size has significantly increased. This is, to my guess, is because the "backup copies" of files stored by VSS are also backed up with the system image backup. Is there a way to exclude the shadow copies of files from backup, while still having a complete vhd file mirroring the OS but without shadow copies? Thanks for all tips and fishes :)em

If you do not want to include image backup in Windows Backup, please refer the following website. How does Windows choose which files to back up? If you want to save a image backup, just click on the “Create a system image” in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and RestorePlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi Arthur, Based on that you linked to the standard description, I guess there are no other special settings or workarounds to have shadow copies be excluded from system images. If I'm not right, please let me know. Thanks for your efforts, Gusem

Yes. We cannot change the conents of the system image. However system image backup is incremental backup and will not take much more spaces after the first backup.
