How to recover security settings after wiping them out with SetAccessControl()?
In an uneducated attempt to add the ability to at least read some folders I ended up removing all security *except* for the ability for one user to read c:\. Apparently SetAccessControl wipes out everything except for the elements added with AddAccessRule() and you are supposed to populate this with the *current* rights. As it is now, Vista (SYSTEM) doesn't even have rights to C:\. Looking at Properties\Security in the Group or user names: section no longer shows SYSTEM, Authenticated Users or Administrators. Attempting to Edit permissions results in "Windows Security" "Can't open access control editor. Access Denied". It's a catch-22 because I need rights in order to regain rights. Is there anything I can do other than wiping the OS and starting over? StevenOwner/Chief Engineer, Top of the Hill Music
