Hello everyone, Thank you all for your help and ideas. I got it mostly all figured out now with a combination of using Testdisk and the MS-DOS command prompt. I rely enjoyed getting reaquainted with MS-DOS. I use to know it much better when I first started out with computers as one had basically no choice but to learn it as a base. If I recall correctly my first PC was back in 1988 or so and was a 386 with 4mb of memory wow ! Thank you much, GF

After doing a backup using Microsoft Win7 64-bit I ended up with 132,359 files and 12,719 folders corrupted and unusable because their file names or their paths were to long ! Is there any way to rename and recover them or software available to do it ? The files are mostly family photos and documents and it would be a huge loss.

Hi, Before you prepare to recover your family photos, I suggest you perform a system backup or create a full computer image first. Actually, I suffered from the issue 2 years ago. One solution is to copy or remove the folders or files to the root directory of partitions. Here is a tool, you may have a try. http://longpathtool.com/ Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. Please pay attention to performing backup before you want to recover these important files. Hope that helps.
