How to recover a *.dbx file in OE6?
Hello! The Inbox.dbx in my OE6 keeps large number of old mails with a size of more than 1.5G.For unknown reasons, this Inbox becomes empty 2 days ago. A check with the Windows Explorer (mail boxes path) still shows the same size of around 1.5G.I created a new box name in OE6, renamed the large old Inbox to this new name in the Explorer path and copied over. Unfortunately, those old mails still do not show in the new box in OE6.Any ways to recover the old mails? Many thanks. Lee CC 1 person needs an answerI do too

To get Outlook Express to load messages from a .dbx file:1. Start OE.2. Create a new folder of the desired name.3. Close OE.4. Go to the OE store folder and replace the new folder's empty .dbx file with the desired one.If that doesn't help, take a look at DBXpress . It can recover messages from a damaged .dbx file.Boulder Computer MavenMicrosoft Most Valuable Professional

Its likely the messages got wiped from the file. If you tried to manually import the file (e.g.www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1) and you still didn't not recover the messages, then its likely they are gone from the file and its probably full of zeroes. This happens a lot, so users should backup frequently. To attempt to recover the messages, check your Recycle bin for an inbox.bak file that you can restore and import back into OE as above. Seewww.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 If there is no bak file or if the messages are still not recovered, then your only chance is to run the extract from disk feature of DBXpress (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/), which will go over the entire disk clusters on the drive and if the messages are still there, it will recover them. Next time keep the inbox and other folders under a few hundred megabytes to prevent a recurrence of the folder self-destruction and backup frequently. steve <Lee CC> wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...Hello!The Inbox.dbx in my OE6 keeps large number of old mails with a size of more than 1.5G.For unknown reasons, this Inbox becomes empty 2 days ago. Thanks for the informative reply.I am still having the file, and has been renamed as Inbox_2010.dbx with size 1.5G.But I am unable to open this box in OE6 with all the procedures mentioned, such as creating a mail box of the same name, click on it, close the OE6, copy over etc.The DBXpress is not a freeware, it has to be bought.
