How to provide access to a network connection for a guest account (XP Home v5.1 SP3)
I am running a stand-alone desktop, on which I have set up three accounts, two created with administrator privileges and the third by turning on the system-provided guest account.I can connect successfully to my ISP via both the administrator accounts, but not from the guest account, although the "Help and Support Center" implies that this should be possible -- "user can log on quickly to check e-mail or browse the Internet".To ensure that there were no differences in the way in which the accounts tried to access the DSL connection, I set up the shortcut to the sign-on/status displays in \Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\, so that it was common to all three accounts. When I right click on the shortcut, followed by Properties , in all three cases the "Shortcut" tab shows the same "Target type" & "Target" information, and when I clickFind Target... it displays the "Network Connections" folder. In the case of the two administrator accounts, however, the folder is shown to contain my DSL, Dial-up, and LAN connections, whereas for the guest account the folder appears empty. When I double-click on the shortcut in the guest account it does not show the sign-on display for the connection as expected. Instead, nothing happens -- no error message, warning display, etcetera. I suspect that this behavior indicates some problem with access rights to the network connections, but after many hours browsing through the "Help and Support Center" I have not been able to come up with any suggestions as to how the problem could be fixed. ..
