For the basics, take a look at the 4 steps to protect your computer page in the Microsoft Security web site. In addition:Don't open E-mail attachments from unknown sources. Don't install or run programs from web sites that you aren't sure about. If a window appears asking you to run a program, say "No" unless you know what the program is, you asked for it to run, and you're sure that it's safe. Never hook it up to the Internet/any network and never let anyone else near it/keep it in a locked room where only you have access. Truly. Otherwise - you can do your best to be as safe as reasonably possible.Keep the Windows firewall on, no exceptions through it (or as few as you can manage).Keep an updated antivirus on it. Scan with antimalware applications (other than whatever protection your antivirus provides in that territory) on ocassion.Watch for any unusual hardware attached to your computer.Use a regular *user* account for your daily routine - not an account with administrative privs.Don't visit questionable web pages. Don't open email attachments you weren't expecting.Make your passwords at least 8 characters long, preferrably 15+ characters and change them periodically. Also do not use one password for *everything*.-- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP --How To Ask Questions The Smart Wayhttp://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
