How to open Word files (.doc) in IE8?
The company I'm at has a program that requires .doc files to open within the browser in order to return queried information. On Windows XP this was solved by going to File Types - .doc - Advanced and selecting "Browse in Same Window". As most of you are probably aware, this advanced file type tab is missing in Windows 7. There are quite a few posts out there of people expressing their frustration with this. I've tried various third party tools, but none had the browse in same window option. I edited the registry per this article but that didn't fix it either (though this was for Office 2007). http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927009 I'm on a Windows 7 - Office 2010 - IE 8 computer. Anyone know how to configure Word files to open within the browser from embedded links?

That article is actually for turning OFF using the browser to open Office docs, but I had seen the article previously. It helped lead me to the article I listed in my question and got me looking at the registry. Along the same lines, anyone know of a list of corresponding values for the Word.Document.12 / .8 BrowserFlags DWord? I've seen all kinds of numbers go in there without any explanation behind them. Example: For the Word.Document.12 subkey add the following value: Value name: BrowserFlags Data type: REG_DWORD Value: 44(Decimal)
