How to force Windows XP Pro. SP3 to retry another NTP server if it fails?
Hello.I hope I am in the right forum to ask this. I miss doing crossposting in msnews.microsoft.com newsgroups.I noticed sometimes my old, updated Windows XP Pro. SP3's internet time synchronizations with a time server, fail for whatever reasons. Is there a way to have it automatically try a different NTP server automatically if the current one failed? The reason why I ask is because my Windows/PC's time/clock seems to drift slowly a lot when I use DVI and watch videos. You can read http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?p=1336503761 , http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=279&threadid=146947 , and http://groups.google.com/group/alt.comp.periphs.videocards.ati/browse_frm/thread/e295263549e7bfea ... So far, we're all stomped. :(Thank you in advance. :)Ant @ Ant's Quality Foraged Links (http://aqfl.net) and The Ant Farm (http://antfarm.ma.cx).1 person needs an answerI do too

Manually in the registry at the NtpServer value at:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\ParametersSee here for more information:Configuring the Time Service: NtpServer and SpecialPollInterval Or at the command prompt with the w32tm utility, example:w32tm /config /update /manualpeerlist:"time.windows.com,0x8 time.nist.gov,0x8" /syncfromflags:manual Or with the deprecated NET TIME /SETSNTP command, example:net time /setsntp:"<servername> <servername>" John

To restore the default entries remove and reinstall the Time service. At the command prompt:net stop w32timew32tm /unregisterw32tm /unregisterw32tm /registernet start w32timeNote that the /unregister command is not a typo, run it twice as shown. You can then change/add secondary time servers as shown in my earlier post.John
